entry level shotgun

Iv shot guns a few times but never really been around them a whole lot besides pheasant hunting when I was 10. Iv wanted one to get into hunting again but iv been on probation and now that im off Im looking to get one. Not to mention there were three breakins around my house in the mountains and the parents gave me the go-ahead. Im looking for a decent entry-level shotgun that wouldnt break the bank. Any suggestions?

 

Remington 870 Express. Very good gun for the money.

 

yea thats what a couple local shops said they would suggest. my buddy has the same gun and its nice.

100% agree with the above. Remington has produced OVER 10 million 870 expresses (I believe the most of any civilian weapon) since it began production.

I have one shotgun - and 870 express, that has never failed me.

Easy to strip, operate, clean, and shoot.

 

If you can find one, Winchester 1300 defender.

Honestly between the 3 (Winchester, Remington, Mossberg) they are all good guns, they will shoot when you pull the trigger. Any one of those 3 will be fine. From here on its all about what feels good to you, go to a gun shop and hold a few of them.

 

Remington 870 express. You can get one around $300 and it will last you forever.

I have an 870 and an 1187, can't go wrong with either Remmington. Just put about 30 shells through my 870 this past weekend. My 1187 jammed, but that was my fault because I didnt clean it....

870 i had the 16gauge about 8 years ago one for the best guns i had

 

like everyone else has said.... can't go wrong with a Rem 870 express. I've had mine for 16 years now and no problems. alot of shells has gone through that gun dove hunting each year and it has never jammed

 

When you make your decision, all of the above are xlnt for defense, take it with the ammo you will be using to the range and get used to it and notice the pattern it shoots at differnt distances.
They are tighter groups at short distances than most people think.

Lot's of discussion about loads. 00 buck is the usual favorite but many will use #4 buck or slugs.

Take a class or two on use of a firearm in defense.
There are a lot of things that go along with having and God forbid using it to defend yourself.
I think espically in Cali.

It is a great responsibility so learn as much as you can about it.

that bad boy looks pretty sweet. so the general concensous is the 870. Thats where I was leaning to but just wanted to see others input. but just like toyota you cant argue with results and reliability i guess. Thanks for all the input guys. I really appreciate it!
