Yikes.... thanks for the honesty, but that just makes me sick to my stomach. I don't think I can handle those numbers, especially filling up here in Southern California, where we have ridiculous gas prices...wait till oil goes back up. I might just settle for an AC 2.7L 4x4 5MT. Tried and true.

That's what I was afraid of. I haven't put enough miles on mine to test it out yet. I wish that 6th gear was a super overdrive. If they're going to use a 4.30 gear, I wish the overdrive would compensate. Otherwise I wish they offered rear end options for gearing. I'd be fine with a 3.73.

Ya, one reason I went with the tacoma was it had a manual option, but mainly because I saved $6K over a Z71 Colorado(Chevy dealer's wouldn't budge more the $500 off MSRP because at the time is was the 2015 Truck of the Year) and the Toyota dealer gave me $7k more for my trade than the Chevy dealer (reason being 3 different Chevy dealers said they couldn't sell a manual transmission sports car!! Seriously??). Lucky for me, my commute to work is all on 55mph roads and gas here is around a $1.50.

I became aware of the mt tacoma mpg during my first test drive and saw it got 14 something during the 10mi highway trip and was turning about 2700rpm doing 75. When I did the math I figured 24mpg for the colorado and 15mg for the tacoma and 2.50/gal avg gas price, I would drive 90some thousand miles before I would spend more then $6k in fuel.

Hi everyone, new member here looking at ordering a 2016 MT DCSB OR or Sport, haven't decided. I'm coming from 16 years of Honda sporty coupes (2000 Prelude 5 MT, 2009 Accord EX-L V6 coupe 6 MT) and will never own an automatic transmission. They'll have to pry the clutch off of cold dead left foot lol. Now I could really use the utility of a pickup truck but still want something fun to drive which is why I'm really interested in the Tacoma.

Looks like there's a lot more manual owners in Tacoma world than in the rest of the car world.

Thankfully Toyota has acknowledged that some of us still prefer a manual.

Funny how things change. There is a Chevy dealer here that has been advertising a 4x4 under $33k for months now. I do not remember exact numbers but has 15 at this price and 100s available in total. I would like to see some sales numbers on them

probably 50% of the reason I was dead set on Tacoma was the fact that I could get a truck in a manual trans in ALMOST any configuration. I almost had to special order it but my dealer ended up finding the exact truck I wanted at a dealer 300 miles away and did what they had to do to get it.

I was sitting at a red light today, and it turned green before I expected. I shoved it in first quickly and immediately felt something was wrong. I tried to move...nothing. I pulled it into neutral and back into first and tried again. This time I went backwards and realized I was in reverse. Luckily I didn't back into anyone. Its way too easy to hit reverse instead of first if you're in a rush with the 6spd. I'm surprised they didn't put a safety pull ring on the Taco like most of the other Toyota manuals. I've been driving manuals since 1992 and this is the first time something like this has ever happened to me. This is the only complaint I have about my truck so far. Operator error-absolutely, but a little too easy to make that mistake!

Maybe you've got something going on with the resistance barrier for reverse(i have no fucking clue if thats what it's actually called)? There's no accidentally putting my truck in reverse, I have to, damn near, forcibly press the stick all the way left and it feels like there's a tension spring or something where it wants to go back into the full neutral position and would if I dont engage reverse. plus the rearview camera turns on on the radio when it is engaged.
Sounds like you were in a big hurry and just mashed it. I rarely get hurried, rarely get stopped at stop lights for that matter up here in BFE, so if the guy behind me starts honking theres a damn good chance i know who they are.

I was never interested in the past tacoma's, mostly 2010 and after. For some reason they didn't offer manual on this tiny island I live on. When I heard that toyota was coming out with a manual truck and was able to ship a manual truck here, that sealed the deal. Now I'm waiting for my 16DCSB OF standard/ manual transmission. It saddens me that everything on the lot is automatic.

I'm starting (or maybe continuing, I think I really started back in Gen1 days, maybe '03) the process of thinking about whether I should buy a new Tacoma to replace my T100 and I'm actually pretty neutral about MT vs AT. But I've never owned or even really driven a modern economy-focused AT that may need a lot of intervention to hold the right gear. When I was into more serious off-roading I actually preferred AT, one less thing to worry about, but now I mostly drive on roads or trails above clutch-slip speed. Aside from personal preference and feeling of control, did anyone pick the MT specifically for improved drivability, less frequent hunting for the right gear, etc that seem to plague the 6AT based on reports I've read.

Anybody here using husky weatherbeaters with a manual? I just installed mine and they're so thick the truck doesn't register the clutch is depressed when starting. I have to really stomp it in there -- hoping it wears in a bit...

You have to specify manual when you order them, they are differences between the auto and manual mats.

Thanks, I definitely got the manual version (I believe the auto won't even fit because the dead pedal size is different). I'll double check though to see.

I picked it because I enjoy manuals and love hearing the AT guys get upset when I praise them. however, I am especially glad I did after I test drove an Auto and felt how they tuned the tyranny for mileage.

The manual '16 I test drove seemed to have a clutch which engaged/disengaged with the pedal quite close to the floor. I remember thinking at the time that if the one I buy had a similar adjustment, this would be something I'd want to quickly change.

The truck I tested had the usual protective paper liners on the floor which managed to bunch up under the clutch even as I was leaving the dealer's lot. I had to pull them out to shift. I plan on a set of Huskies for mine when it arrives, so I really hope the clutch pedal can be adjusted fairly easy.

If anyone has adjusted the clutch linkage on a '16, I would appreciate a comment on the procedure.

Well, for mine the clutch actually engages pretty high up on the travel, so the huskies don't hinder any normal driving. It's really just when depressing the clutch to start the truck that there is a problem. Having very little clue how the signal works for that, I would guess it's either covering up the trigger, or is thick enough that the clutch can't go all the way in. I'm going to try stomping on it a bunch and maybe the mat will break in...
