Hey y'all. I recently got stationed in Maryland and have no networking established. My 2001 Taco (V6) has 121k miles on it and needs a timing belt and water pump. I want to do it but need help. I have most of the tools (I think) Is there anyone close to Germantown area that is willing to help? I am willing to feed ya, and if you are over 21 and have a sober driver, there will be beer! Thanks!

I've changed the belts on my '06 before - but I'm not THAT mechanically inclined. Not sure how much different an '01 would be.... However, PrezidentRedz and several other MDers are great with mechanics and I'm sure they would be happy to help. We gladly welcome you to the Maryland crew.

How soon are you looking to do this? I'm a grad student in Baltimore and will be out of town for the holidays, but I'd be willing to help. I'm relatively new to the forums and I don't have much experience on Tacomas, but I have always done the maintenance on my past vehicles. I haven't been doing many things other than oil changes since my apartment complex doesn't allow us to "work" on cars. But if you need someone to help remove/replace, let me know.

Are there any MD mod days? Maybe we can try and set something up.

I actually want to drop my driveshaft about 1/4" with some spacers or washers to see if I can get rid of some vibes.

Thanks for the killer response! From the write-up on 4x4wire I am missing a few tools. 250lb torque wrench and crankshaft pulley tool. Probably a few others as well but there is Harbor Freight a few miles from the house I can stop by as needed. As a time frame for doing the job...as of right now no hurry, she's running fine but when I checked the coolant level it was low. It has been around 3500 miles since I checked (that was when I changed oil, etc before leaving Little Rock with my cargo trailer). I have since refilled and have been keeping an eye on it. I haven't noticed any leaks anywhere which makes me worry about it leaking into the motor but the oil on the dipstick looks good.

I'd love to meet some folks from this new area, learn a bit more about the truck and just generally BS with y'all. Again, I'd be willing to feed/fluid y'all as the previous message stated! Thanks again for the info!

Anyone available for assistance? I have a few long distance trips coming up and want to make sure I am not stuck on side of the road. Y'all let me know when you are available and I will be available. If you tell me when we can do this I will have a nice meal set up for us! You just let me know! I have to set up plenty of study time as I have promotion testing on 23 Feb. I also have a week long TDY that I will drive to on or about 19 Mar.

Are you trying to get this done before 23Feb or before your trip in mid march? I have no experience on the tacoma, but am willing to lend you a hand where needed.

Thanks for the offer...My March trip didn't pan out so that isn't a factor now. I'd like to set up some time after the 23rd of Feb if you're available (anyone else also). I need to find an inexpensive place to get parts and rent the specific tool I need.

If you can wait until March 23 or so I could give you a hand. I changed all of that stuff on my 02 4runner. It's pretty easy once you get into it.

p.s. I have around 150k on my tacoma and probably will wait until summer time to change it. My 4runner had 180k and still looked brand new.
