So we have found out that the 120 point inspection is only as good as the tech doing it and many points were checked but not verified.

We know the truck is coming with low at fluid.
We also know that we should have our driveline lubricated but they are coming dry.

We should compile a list of things that new owners should be looking for and checking out to maintain their truck for many years...

Sucks we have to do this but it would be smart for all of us to get together and cover each other's butts.

I know that internet forums are naturally a place where a few problems can be magnified to look like many, but man, there seems to be a ton of issues with the new Tacoma. I know that will piss off the fan boys but I really hope Toyota gets some of this figured out.

Are these all issues that Toyota is aware of? In other words if I take my truck in will they know what needs to be addressed? I doubt they will take a forum thread as proof.

Dealerships aren't aware of jack shit until the manufacturer tells em so. Even then, proceed with caution.

The dealership service departments I've spoken with are clueless to any issues with the 2016 Tacoma. When I ask them to look at the AT Fluid or if I had any other issues they said they need to be able to replicate the problems or there is essentially no problem in their mind.

I was talking with my sales guy the other day and made it clear I wanted my trans fluid checked before I signed anything. I even told him I was willing to pay just for the piece of mind, though if I was low on AT fluid I would have bitched enough I'm sure they would have waived the cost. He said they are starting to do to all new Tacoma's coming in because they are aware of the issues. So kudos to them if they are actually doing it. At this point I'd rather see they added a quart then saying they checked and it was fine, mainly because I have a hard time trusting dealerships. My build date march 8th and I'm starting to get anxious already.

On another note, I asked about a tire and rim swap and they had no interest in that at all. They said they would be happy to put new rims and tires on at a cost but the ones that came on the truck were mine and they wanted nothing to do with them.

Anyone know how to go about talking them into helping me out here? I only talked to the salesman and the parts guy, would the sales manager be to one to talk with about this?

Sell the rims on Craigslist or on TW and take the tires to Discount Tire. They will give you credit towards new ones or buy them from you. Most dealerships don't sell used tires so they have no need for them.

Do you need to know, or care?
I've seen a few who have worked it into the deal. A straight swap is unlikely, but if you made an offer on the truck then added $xxx.xx over the price, most dealers would at least be willing to talk. It's unlikely that you'll get them to throw in tires and wheels for free. Swapping between models would be near impossible.

You'd probably get a better deal selling them on your own, than anything you'll ever get from the stealership.

The truth of the matter is that they are going to work it into the price, one way or the other. Give you less of a deal on the truck, but add in the wheels/tires, or you take as-is and you get more off msrp.

Dealer has enough trouble trying to sell cars. They don't want to get in the business of selling your old wheels. It's not a money maker for them and there's no easy way for them to roll it into their inventory system. It's just not a process they're set up to deal with.

My deal is already set but I decided to ask after the fact. I was not asking for something for nothing, I would have been happy if they offered me a few hundred. They wanted full price for rims and more then full price for tires I wanted to buy, (more then I could get them for almost anywhere). They wanted nothing to do with what they took off the new TRD Sport I was buying. I still may buy the TRD 4runner rims from here http://parts.olathetoyota.com/oe-toyota/ptr2035110bk and have them mount my Sport tires on them, but I'm not sure I will be able to stand looking at them for long, so that might be money wasted having them mounted.

Plus, their mounting fee seemed high, I don't remember what it was but it was high.

They aren't going to sell you wheels and tires at cost. Sure they could make the deal to appear that way but somewhere in the bottom line numbers, the costs are rolled in for their profit. They are there to make money obviously so you're almost always better off getting after-market stuff done straight from the vendor rather than paying 3rd party (dealer) pass-through fees. Unless your daddy owns the dealership.

Some dealerships will sell you rims and tires and try to keep the rims and tires that came with the vehicle.
I had a argument once at a Honda dealership about this. I told him to fuck off. Went to a different dealer.

I only asked because I've read posts here from people doing deals like I mentioned with dealerships. I never asked for something for nothing.

Anyway, this is taking the thread way off topic. So mods feel free to clean it up. My original reply did have some on topic content.
