That seems about right, they shop would have to pull both axles (1 hour each side), then probably 20 mins to fix boot each side, then put axles back, 30-45 mins, and maybe even align.

The painful part is that the new boot with grease is about $25 for each side. Or http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...429084,drivetrain,cv+half+shaft+assembly,2288 about $59 for each new axle (non-oem).

I just did this job on my Montero, only drivers side. It took probably 4 hours for me to do it myself, minimal frustrations, but I've pulled the axles before to install my front locker, and I have all the tools needed to do so (tie rod separator, garage to work in).

If you have only a hole in one boot I would only do 1 side, no reason to do the other unless they both are bad. It would be half the cost.

I wheeled at least once with a torn boot, never heard any squeaking or rubbing, I would have driven it for longer if I had to pay someone else to replace boot/axle.

    Just my 2 cents.

It will take 2 hours max to do it yourself.

    It's really really easy

Speaking of cv boots...like a moron I pulled the stock clamp off the outer boot and realized my hose clamp was a bad idea because it was contacting the shock. $10 and a trip to Toyota and I got 2 new cv boot clamps. I had previously pulled the inner boots and stretched out so they don't rub and it worked with a hose clamp...long story short get cv boot clamps and don't use hose clamps. Don't go to auto parts store either as they are super cheap metal...ask me how I know :anonymous:

Ok I was gonna try that...I actually had a zip tie on but the boot could still slide. Did you use a big ass heavy duty one? The one I had was a standard small one and I cranked that thing down as tight as I could.
