Hey guys, I have the setup pictured below. Manual with 4WD button/lever. I have 3 questions. This is my first 4WD, so don't beat me up too hard.

1: When the transfer case is in neutral, without the button pushed in, the 4WD light in the dash comes on. Is this normal? It doesn't always pop on...

2: Can I leave it in 4WD-Neutral while parked?

3: I tried 4WD on the street for the first time. The roads were pretty slick and I only turned it on only after I noticed my rear tires were slipping. After 4WD was engaged, it drove normal for the most part. However, there was a few times where the front end clunked REALLY loud. The clunking was proportional to speed, so I thought it was the tire. I almost thought I had a blowout, but when I turned off the 4WD, the clunking instantly went away. I then turned 4WD back on, and it drove normal again. This happened about two or three times on an hour drive.

Thank you guys for reading, and thank you guys in advance for the suggestions and replies.

1, So when the transfer case is in neutral, the light SHOULNT be on?

2, I know there isn't really a need, I was just wondering if it was okay to do.

3, Wouldnt the driveline bind happen the whole time then? All I did was turn it off and back on again in less than a few seconds and it went away for a good 20 to 30 minutes. But when it happened, it was really rough and loud.

Right, I guess I should add that I wasn't turning. The clunking only came about in random times, all when going straight. And it's not a clunk or two, it's constant clunking like a machine gun until I turned it off and back on again.

Mine clunked really bad whenever I would dis-engage 4WD. It also made a whining noise when in 4WD. Both of these problems were remedied when I changed my gear oil in the front diff and the transfer case. I did it all in about an hour and it was pretty easy. Use the search bar to find a link to the instructions using key words. I also never use 4WD on pavement, even if it's wet. Good luck....

Not sure if you read it right... It didn't clunk while disengaging at all. Never noticed a whining noise either, however it was raining pretty heavily and my tires are pretty loud.

Morning bump. Anyone have any ideas on what it could be?

    Lunch bump...

This morning when I put the transfer case into neutral, the 4WD didn't pop on. However, after I drove and got to school, I tried it again, and the light popped on. Haven't got a chance to check if long term 4WD would cause clunking again.
