I had a clunk when turning sharply and couldn't figure it out. Put my phone up in the coil and tried videoing while I turned (truck was in park) but as soon as the clunk would happen the phone would fall. Finally got smart and asked someone to look with me. The clunk was in the UCA. The bolt was loose and at a sharp turn it was slipping on itself. Those bolts are in a pretty awkward spot so I didn't get a torque on it when I was tightening back up post lift install. I took a regular wrench and tightened the piss out of it and the clunk is gone now. I've got another noise now but this one is much less clunk sounding and more like a reverb of something hitting the coil. I'm in the market for new UCAs (still on stock). Hopefully that will stop it. It's only happened a couple times and I was in a really tight turn.

You know what would be good. If you have a gopro pick a road where you hear it most then take that road the same way multiple times while moving your camera to different angles and areas of under the frame where you could potentially be making noise from. Use a video editor to combine all of the videos into one so you could examine it all in one video.

    Just a thought.

Well, I need the ECGS bushing for the vibes at the very least. If it also solves the clunk, that's even better. I figure I'll do the ECGS first since I have it...and then go out and rent a GoPro ($50) if the corrected CV axle play doesn't fix the clunk. If I owned a GoPro (wish...) or knew someone who had one I would have gotten a moving video of it already.

I got a pry bar on the LCAs with the wheel off the ground and there's a normal amount of movement, but it moves right back as it should if the bushing is intact. Kind of hard to explain but you can definitely tell the bushings are still solid on the inside. The videos of busted LCA bushings show the LCAs moving forward...clunk...then staying there until acceleration when they move back...clunk. Mine bounce right back.

Any of you guys with the rear clunk have anything like this going on? I posted this in the suspension section, but no hits so far. I was thinking it was the shock at first, but I can feel it in the leaf pack. It's driving me nuts. I tightened up the u-bolts a bit, but no improvement. This is with Icon shocks and an Icon AAL with the overload removed, installed about a month ago.

I can't see what moved, are you able to tell? Or were you just recording the sound? I'm trying to solve the front before the back because I'm convinced it might all be in the front.

Right, I meant what moved as in what made the sound. I'm guessing you're not able to tell.

Did you check the center pins on the leafs? Front leaf pack bolt and rear including shackle? Does it happen every time you press down on the bed?

There is a thread on here some where about a bushing or something that wears out or something like under the bed. I will try to find it

Good call. Does sounds like the composite bed smacking against the frame.

Make sure your bolts holding the leaf pack to the shackle are threaded from the middle of the trick and pointing towards the outside. If not, the end of the bolt will scrape the hanger and cause awful noises. I found this out recently. Check your shackles and make sure the bolts point OUT and aren't rubbing. Had mine like that for nearly a week before I realized what was wrong with the right side of my truck...doh!

@jtweezy bit of an update, so my buddy at Toyota got my passenger side LCA replaced under warranty . He also did the T.S.B. for the Needle Bearing, and put in the East Coast Gear Supply solid bushing instead of the T.S.B. Needle Bearing:bowdown:.

I asked why he didn't replace the driver side LCA as well, but he told me he can only do one at a time, as warranty may get saucy.
Long story short my thump/clunk is still happening :boom:Sucks..!!

I have a question.. Those who have the thump/clunk any of you running aftermarket UCA..? I see that @ThunderCookies wrote about the bolt that holds the top of the spindle, he states it wasn't torqued right. I have put 75# IIRC..? Has anyone put more torque on this bolt. My thump/clunk isn't all the time, its also more when the weather is cooler. It's driving me nuts..!!!

Mine are stock. I am actually in the process of getting aftermarket though. Hopefully have them and installed in the next couple of weeks. Even with the stock and not quite tight, I was only getting the clunk at pretty extreme turns of the wheel, like u-turn-esque angles.

The solution to a worn composite bed and to keep it from making noise is to run rubber or polyurethane washers right beneath the bed bolts. It should eliminate the noise.

Thanks for the update and sorry yours still isn't solved. I'm thinking my driver's side CV and needle bearing is the culprit for me. When I get it swapped out for the bushing I'll post the results. My passenger side hardly has any play, and since the 887 coils went on my CV angles are much less extreme than when I had 886s.

Good info to know that it wasn't your LCAs or bushings. I don't think my LCA bushings are the cause of my clunk either.

Since I posted a while back about mine getting worse and seeing more play in the driver's side CV, I've been kicking it into 4HI almost daily on straight, rough roads where I get clunks in 2HI and I get nothing when I'm in 4HI.

My clunk just started after 45k miles. The clunk is coming from the driver's floor board as you begin to accelerate in either direction. I can feel it at my feet as well. At first I thought it might be a bad motor mount since its most noticeable when you load the drivetrain.
I guess its time to start checking every bolt mentioned in this thread.

With the symptoms that you described, it might be your LCA bushings. When they fall apart the LCA shifts forwards and backwards. Do you get the clunk at an abrupt stop?

When coming to an abrupt stop that noise is very possibly LCA bushings. However, if you get the noise as a result of going forward or backward in succession (like a three point turn or something) it's likely the brake pads shifting forward and back as you change the direction of the vehicle's motion. I think this was mentioned earlier in the thread.
