Good news. Mapping at 1953 miles

I noticed a discernable difference on my drive home tonight. Same route, same speeds, same traffic patterns... very different feel in the motor and tranny. Shifting was much smoother and the grunt was noticeably stronger. Where before I felt as if I had to feed excessive throttle to reach over 55-60 mph, it simply climbed up to 65 mph without the drastic pedal input. So much so that I had to back out from 70 mph when setting the cruise control. Unfortunately in my celebrative state I forgot to look at rpm's. There is hope for us all.

 

Did you bump the ECT Power button perchance?

I think its strange the MPG is improving after 1,000 miles (or so in your case). Not that I dont believe you, there are several members who have said MPG improved.

My point being, it should be from the factory the highest MPG mapping possible. Just interesting to me.

 

Just to clarify, I have not yet compared MPG's, only noticed better acceleration and shifting performance after a hair under 2000 miles, not 1000 miles. My drive home is only 5 miles which won't provide much data in that respect, however I will be taking a longer trip up north for a wheeling run this Sunday and will look closely at the MPG's over a couple hundred miles.

 

So from one day to the next your truck suddenly changed for the better. Seems a bit far fetched.

 

You're right. I'm only here for the attention and peer adulation anyway. Just sharing what my experience was. Hell... it could have been a stellar quart of gas, rogue tailwinds, perfect ambient temps with a higher than normal Texas oxygen level, maybe someone snuck in 10 psi in my tires or a gram of mushrooms in my road beer. Look man, no big deal if you doubt me. We will all survive.

 

not far fetched at all. Trans learns the map needed for that driver after 1,000 miles or so. Every modern trans does that. Its not 1970 anymore.

 

Several posters on the board have had a similar experience to the OP where after a few thousand miles the truck seems to perform a little better in shifting, acceleration, and mileage. This could be in their heads, or its possible there's some mapping changes after a certain amount of time where the truck is better broken in. Some of the equipment I work with has that. After x number of cycles without issues it will start responding quicker and more aggressively.

 

1000 miles is also the break-in period according to the owner's manual. Some of the mpg gains may be attributable to that as well.

 

MPG's have been steadily and slowly improving over the past few weeks of ownership. It started with mid to high 14's, which was rough on the brain after 22's in the PreRunner. Last I looked I was in the high 17's dipping into the 18's but honestly haven't payed much attention in the past week. Sometimes it's easier to avoid the bad news and rejoice in the low gas prices instead.

 

same 60 mile drive same speed cruise control on, had almost 4 mpg drop on a windy day! after 9000 miles on my taco yes it did feel more responsive and the throttle more relaxed after the 1000 mile on it, but i cant say it changed the mpgs

 

I think it was the mushrooms in your road beer! That will do it every time. Lol

You know how technically challenging it is to toss my empties and used baggies through the sliding window in a double cab? And who's gonna close that bitch for me when I'm doing 80 in a school zone? The wind noise is brutal and it's next to impossible to light my crack pipe. I'm so pissed they don't build a standard cab TRD OR LB w/ JBL!

 

And before anyone starts going off on me about using the moon roof, remember that's where my kids stand to shoot automatic weapons at passing Prius's. I'd hate to hit someone with a empty Jack bottle and risk a injury.
