Just walked back to my house. Had to pull over and park my 07 4cyl Manual Transmission Tacoma Pre Runner on the street. Engine light went off at the stoplight followed by violent shaking and vibrating as I accelerated. Acceleration would not go past 2000 rpm. Could not shift into second gear without engine stalling. It's 7am here I have to wait a couple more hours before calling my local Auto shop. Any advice would be appreciated!

Could be any number of things (misfire, bad MAF reading, bad cam- or crank sensor...). Hook up a decent scanner to read codes and look at the real-time data, or take it to a shop.

Assuming it's a misfire, without a scanner, you can attempt to isolate the culprit cylinder by unplugging the ignition coils one at a time and noting any change to the sound/vibration. No change mean that particular cylinder is the culprit.

Did you fuel up recently? May have gotten some bad gas. Newer vehicles will go into limp mode when it comes to getting bad gas.

Well damn. I'm on a roll with shit luck. Have to wait until tomorrow to get it towed thanks to my insurance policy. Recently had some repair to my engine block and replaced my radiator. During that work these were separate engine codes that I was going to start working on next month after I recovered from $2900.00.

    P0420 CAT BANK 1
    P0012 INTAKE
    CAMSHAT POSITION TIMING OVER RETARDED

After completing the job on my engine block, my check engine light was not firing off. This was literally 2 days ago. FML. Engine along with response was running great until this morning when Zeus struck me down. Yes I recently flushed all of my fluids and topped them all off. I have been Pumping Premium gas since buying the truck less than a year ago. Shit luck sums it up. I'll provide more info as it goes along tomorrow.

Just had the same sort of issue amongst others with an '09 GMC I had recently paid off!! My problem was with the exhaust camshaft. Too much play in the camshaft and my tensioner went out so my timing chain skipped.....POS!! That is what brought me to the world of Toyota. I test drove a Tacoma years ago but could never afford to ake the leap until now. Best of luck to you and keep us updated.

Repair to the engine block? Exactly what work was done to it? The block is cast iron...

The P0012 code could very well explain the vibration problem. Here's the FSM section on diagnostics.

Poor choice of words. Here is what I recently had repaired/replaced:

    Three Cyl Gaskets
    One oil seal
    Four O-rings
    One oil gasket
    Two water inlet gaskets
    One Oil filter gasket
    One water by-pass pipe
    Radiator

I appreciate the pdf you attached man

That CamShaft over retarded code could def cause the indications you are getting. This could throw off the timing and get the misfiring etc.
