im in need of a new key fob/keyless entry remote...whatever you wanna call them. bout the only way mine works is to give it the stare of death and smack it about 4 or 5 times...and even then, it doesnt work but half the damn time. not the batteries either...i've replaced them twice...all the same.

ive seen where you can get the remotes at pepboys and maybe a couple other places..............but what about programming them?? can you do it yourself...or does it need to be done by the stealership??

any other places to get the remotes at a good price?

My only experience is with a 2nd gen, but it was wicked easy. I've bought a couple of them (and some for the old lady's forester) off ebay for 10-15 bucks. I've had good luck with the ebay store www.freeprogramremotes.com The instructions can be found relatively easily online and involving some combo of hitting buttons, turning the key in the ignition and opening the door. If you do it carefully it will take like 45 seconds. I always stick with the OEM remotes though, I feel like they're better quality than the ones at pep boys. good luck!

Bummer... It might not hurt to call them and see if they can track one down. There's got to be used ones out there somewhere.
They ship quickly, usually have it in hand in a week or so.

Guys - just picked up a '00 Tacoma. Sr5 with the TRD package and power locks. It didn't come with a keyless entry remote/fob thingy. Can I buy one of these online and make it work with my car?

Or, better yet, is there anyway to program the remote for my '994R to work both cars? That would be pretty slick.

    Thanks!

now, it doesn't have the "brain" required for it

just get a compustar alarm installed and they will connect it to the power locks

alarm and keyless entry in one go

I typed the numbers on the back of my old remote in the search bar on ebay and located mine that way.

What is the actual sequence and what are steps to program the OEM remote for an '04 Tacoma?
