Toyota said they cannot advise a dealership to check transmission fluid level on my truck...

There are a lot of guys who have done it . I have followed most of the low fluid threads since they started back in early December and is how I have kept the poll up to date . There are at least 20 posts but I think this one should work

    What you said:

No point in bitchin', as that doesn't solve anything. Deal with it.

Why bother even contributing to this thread? Oh, wait it's another member in the 3rd Gen Forum who doesn't even own a 3rd Gen. Makes sense.

I'm not reading through 4 pages

But what you should do is take a tech out on a really long test drive say 1.5-2hrs and then laugh because it would have only taken 20 mins to check and top up your tranny oil now the shop has lost out on 2hrs of labour at $100+ a hrs

I was merely pointing out that bitchin' about your issues, doesn't solve your issues. You need to paddle your own canoe.

Hey, Bro, for what it's worth; it doesn't matter what gen you drive, as long as it's a Toyota!

Not exactly how it works. Dealers won't agree to more than just a quick drive.

Haha sounds like that Seinfeld episode....

Remember, there are many many happy owners. I for one would never go back to a 2nd gen. Everything feels like an antique

2nd Gens were not without problems. I had a 2008 that blew the heads at 83,000 KMs, 3 over the power train warranty. They claimed that the rad cap failed and would not cover it. I won't go into details, but it is obvious that the blown head caused excessive pressure in the coolant system, which blew the cap. They had my truck hostage.

    Long story short:
    - dealer would not fix motor
    - replaced motor with wrecker motor that I found $5200 (included rental car)
    - traded in truck upon repair for new truck
    - got new truck for $3K off sticker
    - included 100,000 bumper to bumper warranty $2700

    They have replaced:
    - windshield (pressure crack) 3 x 80 km round trips
    - driver's leather seat (split side seam) 4 trips and eventually fixed at an upholstery shop of my choice

The sales manager wants my truck for himself. Now I only take it to the dealer when I feel the need to piss them off. The service department heads hate me. The techs love me. I know more about my truck than they do because of TW.

I don't get mad or even, I get ahead. No more worries.

This doesn't mean shit to us nor does it contribute to the thread. You had a truck that was over warranty. We're having issues with less than 5k miles on our brand new vehicles. Not a few owners, but a good amount. Go troll elsewhere..."I don't get mad, I get ahead"....arrogant bastard you are.

Easy, Cowboy. My warranty was over the bumper to bumper, not the powertrain at 100,000 KM. They blamed the failure on a non-warrantied part, as opposed to the engine head that was still under warranty.

If you think I'm an arrogant bastard, so be it.

Avondale Toyota. CJ is the manager and Pete in service have been fantastic to deal with and I highly recommend talking to them even though you're across the valley. Also, they will give you a loaner car for free so no need for someone else to be inconvenienced bringing you back and forth. Pete told me tonight after the 2nd failed try not to worry I don't give up that easy,he's going to try it again first thing in the morning and will also check the tranny fluid. At least now I feel even if they cannot find anything wrong, that everything possible was done and it's now documented in case the tranny explodes.:bananadead: I feel they're really trying their best to help me out and that they really do care about the customer.

LOL....I just told them today after they couldn't replicate the problem that you probably think I'm crazy. Good luck with yours and hopefully they can figurer this mess out soon.

Dog friendly, with dog snot on inside windows, with of course a/c! Mag 16 inch wheels from a Mazda.
Not sure about everyone else, but I'm curious about whether someone comes up with an easy fix. Whether it's Toyota or MacGyver! As far as looking at this site, I dislike lumping all Tacomas gen together. Looking at new discussion, it seems I tend to drift to other generations. Other than my 2nd Gen Tacoma, it seems futile. Might as well throw in Hilux too!

I just bought my truck last Saturday. This Friday at 700 AM the service dept will check my trans fluid per the Toyota procedure at their cost . I had it written into the buyer order as a condition of sale. They have replaced a transmission on a 2016 with 1300 miles on it. They have also checked some trucks that were properly filled. I have their most experienced Tech assigned to this job. I also questioned an arbitrary Tech about the procedure (PDF)on one of Gearhead's posts. The guy knew exactly how to do it. Temp range, overflow tube, initial conditions (not normal operating temp). So I know these guys are aware of the potential problem and how to check it. And they know Toyota authorized replacing a transmission with 1300 miles on it. That guy had many symptoms. I will cast my vote when I find out whether it was low or not. I would not have known of this potential problem if not for this forum, for which I am greatful. I also hope my truck is properly filled. If not, with only 105 miles and no symptoms, hopefully no damage. I loved my 1999 Tacoma which I just gave to my son tonight (170,000 miles). I love this truck so far. image.jpg I plan on keeping this one for 15 years.

Your suppose to check it at normal operating temperature after driving the vehicle around for a bit. Not when it's cold.
