computer control

hey all -
I need to hear from those of you who also have all the factory computer controlled traction control systems (otherwise known as "driving assist systems). I appreciate the idea behind these systems, but I am aggravated at their insistence of control upon my driving. I know that they can be "turned off", but that is where my question comes in. Based on the owners manual, I've turned off certain controls (i.e. TRAC and VSC) hoping to allow myself some "fun" in the snow, however, they continue to activate, as indicated by the light coming on and the truck acting as though I'm in an accident.

Is anyone else frustrated with this "computer power" and has anyone done anything about it. I just want my truck to be a truck, under my control, safe or unsafe. I'm thinking of trading it in on a base truck just to get control again.

 

I haven't experienced it on a tacoma (08), but I did have VSC on the G35. The first thing I did when I got in my car was... Start engine, buckle up, push VSC OFF, and drop it in gear.... I hate it when the car takes control from me, for me it's unpredictable. There are times I intentinally want to kick the back out (even in the truck) to make a quicker sharper turn or such... and if traction control/fuel system cut/ect it really messes me up.

This is one of the main things holding me back from trading for a 09+ 4x4 OR.... :/

 

I have the 09' with all the "features" and cant stand it. I have gotten more used to it, however it scared the piss out of me the first time it kicked in. I don't turn it off because I'm lazy but I am not a huge fan of the computer "aid".

 

Perhaps you aren't fully turning it off. Are you pressing and holding the VSC OFF button for at least (three? five?) seconds? If you do, it should stay off until you get over 30 mph or you hit the button again.

To be honest, aside from having some desire to do donuts in a snowy parking lot, I can't imagine why you want to disable a stability system that makes you safer.

 

Driving on the snow cover roads here I'm very pleased with the stability systems in my truck. They work great.

 

their fine when im not offroading. but sometimes when im going down an angled on ramp or off ramp it will kick in and i swerve. pretty lame.

 

That's arguable... "safer."

Are you sure it turns on after 30mph again? If it does, thanks for convincing me to never buy an 09+....

 

I have an 09 and traction control cannot be turned off, even if you hold it on for more than 15 seconds.

 

I'll look in my manual; one guide I have bookmarked says that if you turn on AutoLSD, it turns off (and trac turns back on) at 30 mph. It also says that if you turn it off by holding it down while stopped until it all shuts off, it won't come back on at all until you turn it on (or shut down and restart).

 

I have to put my truck in Manual and hold the Button for 3 seconds to turn it off. If I just press and released AUTO LSD ( red light ) along with Off ( amber ) light comes on dash. But if its turns off you can do all you want with your truck, computer wont bother you. I test that today.
