Getting base double cab and no SR5, regrets?

So for those that bought a base double cab, do you regret not having certain options from the SR5 package and/or are those missing things easily upgradable with aftermarket ?

 

I have a 2007 PreRunner 4Dr. Isn't it true you can't get a 4 Dr in the base model??

 

I have a 4dr base model and have no regrets.

4dr still has power windows/mirrors/locking

Anything you are missing that you really want you can easily add later...

Obviously I would prefer a SR5 or TRD but they were ALOT more money than this one.

I plan on still adding remote start/locking and some TRD sport rims and that is about it.

The SR5 is mostly cosmetic stuff like alloys, colour coded bumpers etc. I like the look of my black bumpers and flares. The rear slider in a double cab is pretty useless as you have to climb in the back to open and close it... you can always add one as well.

 

damn you canadians and your different trim models. a base model in the states is just the 5 lug 2wd tiny looking tacoma.

 

So then what do I have? I'm in the states, my truck is an 07 Double Cab 4x4 V6 without the SR5 or TRD packages....I have a base model .

So to the OP, I do not regret buying the base model. I don't know what it includes in Canada, but in the US.....
Fog lights and intermittent wipers are easily added and relatively cheap. I think cruise control can be added and so can steering wheel radio controls, but I haven't looked into those much. Compass and temp can be added with an aftermarket mirror. The double cab already has power locks and mirrors. Keyless entry can be added alone or with an aftermarket alarm for cheap. I wouldn't use a sliding rear window, but if you want one then break yours and pay the difference for insurance to replace it..no that isn't honest! I think that are the only differences other than cosmetic and I like the black better than the chrome.

I tinted the windows, added wet okole seat covers, aftermarket stereo, aftermarket wheels and tires and I love it.

 

I had the same questions when I bought my 09 AC. I put a positive spin on it and I am slowly upgrading with better quality items than if I had the Toyota SR5 package.

So far the only real challenge I see down the road is power outside mirrors.

One thing DIY gives you is knowledge of how things go together and come apart in a Tacoma. I came from GM product line where everything is held together with screws or fasteners. With the Tacoma a lot of the plastic parts are snap together and the possibility for breakage is high. Just take your time, use the search function, and ask questions. I have found that all the help I need is on this forum.

One other thing is to post pics of your mods and upgrades. We all like pics of what you are doing.

 

Oh yeah my bad I forgot about those. I would probably buy one of those if I was building a dedicated offroad rig. I like the black fender flares.
