So, this is "consistent with other Tacomas." Therefore, because others exhibited the same, it's "not abnormal". Let's not do the right thing and evaluate what's happening here and consider whether this is really acceptable for the product we want to deliver to our customers. Instead, let's just compare to other models (that's easy). Oh, they all seem to have it. Those engineers must've built it that way! Let's conclude "nothing abnormal" then. What a sad way to disavow shoddy engineering and dodge liability.

I appreciate what @busticator and @Danielnc06 are doing. Truly I do. But I'm still stuck reconciling the fact that I paid $40K for this, that I have never had an issue with Toyotas in 30 years, that this is how they act when one surfaces, and owners assume the burden to find fixes because Toyota doesn't want to admit a flaw that sounds easily fixable. I applaud your efforts, gents. And I will continue to follow this thread for your discoveries. I have to say, though, that you (we) guys have busy lives with families and jobs. You (we) work for a living to buy these products. Toyota has a swath of people employed to do nothing but research, design, produce, and deliver quality products--and then fix them for the customers who buy them. Not the other way around. In principle, Toyota should own up to this.

Yeah, how pathetic. I really hope the word gets out and they will start feeling the pain of declining sales. Fully deserved.

Well, here is one declining sale. I am really disappointed in toyotas lack of response. My last 4 vehicles have been a 4runner and 3 tacomas.
I also wrote them re the atf issue (on ask toyota). The only response i got was a survey 3 wks later wanting to know how satisfied i was with their response.
I had planned on trading this spring.
I will say that my 14 tacoma has been great.
I do know this is the internet and the complainers could be members of the gm social media team. But, at this point i am not trading for a new tacoma

Since they made a point of saying that the steering was ok in that letter,I'm wondering if they actually have a fix but will say it's another issue. Technically it doesn't impact steering the vehicle. Lawyers! Sheesh

Well, we'll see how serious they take me on Saturday. That will tell a lot as well about plans to handle (or not handle) this long term.

Sounds about right on the replies. I contacted the same area with complaints about the
Dealer and received the same canned, worthless responses.

We can always hope a fix is in the works....

I'm still trying to figure out my response to the letter, since they obviously don't address the issue at all...even the engineers who drove the vehicle admitted to me that they could feel the buzzy vibrations through the steering wheel, gas pedal, and foot well. I've never had nor ever said their was a steering issue or problem, just that the vibration (which OBVIOUSLY is transmitted from somewhere), at certain RPM's, when driving longer distances, caused the numbness. I suppose that this is their 'we find nothing wrong' legal response as an attempt to just CYA....makes me wonder what was in the original report from my dealer. I certainly have a concern about the numbness issue, which is why I no longer drive the truck anywhere but local, now. I've owned it almost 5 months and just hit 3000 miles. Half of that is driving it to Vegas once, a loop on the Navajo Rez once, and a few back and forths to the dealership (200 mile R/T). My intentions were to drive it a lot more than I do. Clock is ticking, for Toyota. Once I give up and trade it in, I won't be buying another of their products, again. I won't say 'worst' customer service, ever; however, at this point it seems to be quite blind to the issue, which is disturbing, to say the least.

Did any of them every make note in writing or did they just say it verbally so they
wouldn't be held liable for saying it?

I have no idea what their actual report said....I can't even tell you what was in my original dealership complaint. The piece of paper I got from the dealer was basically useless....but it did have the tracking number on it. As I noted in my big post, they did say that the 'legal' response was the first one that I'd get, and that any fix or response to the complaint which contained a possible fix/repair would take much longer.

Thanks. I never had to deal with a single issue on my 2011 so dealing with Toyota Corp. is
something new(started with dealer issues) but they seem worthless from the reading I've done
as well as my dealing with them this far.

    Hello folks,
I am a new user here, started lurking on Tacoma World because I was interested in the new Tacomas and possibly buying one.
I have history with Toyota, having owned several earlier Tacomas, going back to the 80's (werent even called Tacomas back then) and a 4Runner.
It sucks that Toyota treats their customers this way. I found out when I had a driveline thump in my 08 4wd 4Runner. This was a known issue and my local Toyota dealer refused to work on my vehicle because after rifling through my glove box, they found I had used another transmission fluid than Toyota WS. They stated you could not do this. This is not true, there is a law called the Magnuson/Moss act that states that warrantors cannot require that only branded parts be used with the product in order to retain the warranty. Look it up on the internet for details. Anyway, they basicly threw me out of the dealership and when I went to the other local dealer, they said they wouldnt work on my car either because they had been contacted about my vehicle. I was shocked. No amount of reasonable talking to them helped nor had talking to corporate Toyota. I would get the same canned responses from them. I finally had to use the arbitration process to get any help. Look in your warranty booklet and it explains the arbitration process. When I did this a few years ago, it didnt cost much, just a few dollars to start a claim. The arbitrators then set up a meeting with your dealer to talk about the issue you are having. When the meeting got scheduled (it didnt take very long for all this to happen) Toyota corporate magically started helping me. They sent me to another dealer who resolved my issue.
I'm not sure if arbitration would help in your cases, but I wanted to provide my experience, in case it may help you guys.
Seeing all these issues on this gen and Toyota's responses to them, makes me NOT want to buy this truck. I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee now, and it has had several major issues, including having to replace the cylinder head. The difference was that Chrysler took care of my issue, no questions asked. Big difference in how I was treated with respect.

The thing that kills me is +-60% of owners don't have the vibration. Either way about half of owner's trucks aren't "normal". How can something that affects +-40% be "normal"? I get that they're test driving vehicles on lots, and almost guaranteed they will find it on any truck on the lot. With that being said, I can't believe not one of these test drives has been in a non-vibrating truck, what are the odds of this if the majority of owners don't have the vibes?

Apparently 50% of owners have some steering wheel vibration on their 5th gen. I'm guessing it's more just annoying than actually rendering the car undriveable, but still.... I need to stop looking for problems and just hope for the best.

I actually considered another NEW Taco but I have learned a lesson of buying 1st year model (even with Lexus's quality). I'm seating back and see how this pans out. It totally sucks for the OP and many other new owners.

These Toyota responses are making me angry. I think William Shakespeare had it right when he wrote "The first thing we do, lets kill all the lawyers"

Good Luck to Toyota selling more of these defective rigs. I certainly won't be one of the ones buying. I have owned a long line of 4x4 Tacomas from 79, 82, 88, 92, 06, looks like I will go elsewhere for my next truck unless this gets fixed pronto.
