    I remember seeing a picture of a Tacoma somewhere on this forum. It was a sweet looking Tacoma parked at a Tesla Charging station with the owner holding the Cable and looking confused. Can not seem to find it or which thread it was. Anyone know where I can find it.

    If it helps, your not crazy as i saw that picture too . . . maybe change your title to lure in the owner: "Tacoma at charging station picture"

    Good old Nikola Tesla. I probably wouldn't have my career if it weren't for him.
    That's cool to have it run on electric. I've installed a couple charging stations at dealerships. I can say that they draw a massive amount of power to charge, and with today's technology, you don't get a reasonable amount of miles off a charge. Charging it every night, you'd double your power bill, easy.
    I'm sure the technology will advance in a good 10 years or so.

    Basically he is saying electric cars arent as efficient as gas cars when you look at the whole picture. factor in how much you need to pay to suck your juice from the grid. Oh an btw what if china turns off our power using the internet...sorry tesla see ya later

    Thats why Toyota condemned their technology publicly and said they will never work with electric cars again. Next step is hydrogen if you really want to find a solution to pollution.

    ^ Yeah. And "clean" power? I mean, at least it's renewable, to a point. Plugging into a receptacle seems clean to the end user,that's because they don't know what I do, what happens much further down the line to generate those VA.

    Looking at the picture I spotted the Blue Mtns of NE Oregon in the background, @DefconBrix lives up to the purpose of his build in exploring our country. I've still yet to see a single Tesla charging there since they put them in :rofl:thanks to OP I've got yet another inspiration build.

    But we don't need to burn coal to charge them. Its too bad there's so much negativity about electric cars. That will change, its evolving. I'd take a Tesla Tacoma in a second.

    So I'm assuming you just use your Tacoma as a daily driver or a grocery getter?

    As of yet, I have not found an electric car that could be efficiently used as a truck (which is what a Tacoma is) that can haul and tow reasonable distances or with reasonable power. Nor would I ever take an electric truck out for off-roading.

    Until they can make an electric truck that will haul 5,000lbs at least 800 miles in a charge, I'm going to pass on ever getting an electric Tacoma.

    Shoot the nearly $200K Tesla can't go much more than 500 miles on a charge. Then you have to stop for 2-8 hours just to get back on the road. Good luck finding a charging station.

    800 miles?! Big bladder or piss bottle? Today you can drive across the country, all electric. 20min charge will get you to the next stop, about 200 miles. Which is when the average traveler is ready to break. Stations everywhere, all free for life with the purchase of a Tesla. Oh and it's faster than you'd ever need, and safer.

    The most expensive Tesla takes 90 minutes to charge fully at a Tesla super duper charge station (forgot what they call them) and will go about 200 miles. The cheaper versions that most normal people could hope to afford can't do that.
    Also there is not a Tesla charging station every 200 miles. I looked for them along my normal road trip route. I have to go 40 miles out of my way to get to one.
    If you go to a normal charging station it can take hours to recharge.

    I've not see where what you are saying is realistic. If it is, it's probably a car that costs more than most people's homes.

    I would definitely cruise around town in a Tesla. Gasser or Diesel for road trips though. There just a big enough infrastructure for me to feel okay with roadtripping in an electric car.

    They are ridiculously expensive right now. Should be a 35k option in the next couple years. You can drive cross country if you take the correct routes, not saying you can just meander all around, but San Francisco to new York has been done. Ive been to stations stations in the middle of Montana.
    It's not perfect but it's better than what we've been doing. It is a lot less detrimental when you consider the drop in maintenance requirements. No exhaust system, oil changes, easier on braking system...

    From cars.com article.
    The Model S has a range of 232 miles. With a wall charger itbtakes 1 hr to charge enough to drive 5 miles, so 52 hrs for a full charge. With the "supercharger" it takes 1 hr to charge enouhh to drive 31 miles, so 9.5 hrs to full charge. If you have a dounle chather you can cut that down to 4.5 hrs.

    I can't take several 4.5 hr coffee breaks at these supercharger stations if I can find them when trying to go on my vacation.

    Not to mention that its not emission free. Maybe not oit the cars exaust pipe, bit electricity doesn't make itself (think big bad dirty coal). Or all the hirrible things done to the environment makeing those batteries.

    As far as the ranges per charge go. That is when new, as a battery is used, its cappacity decreases. My cell phone doesn't hold a charge like it did when new, but I can afford a new phone battery. Go look at the replacement cost of batteries for your tesla.
