right on the mark dirty pool, OP if you have trouble lining up the lower mark just turn the crank 1 teeth (right) to line up the belt. it wont line up on the top mark (crank) but once you rotate the whole system everything will line up. 2:1 ratio is correct. in my opinion, you don't have to align tdc before removal since these motors are non-interference. 2nd time I did my belt and said f-it and did not align tdc until I was ready to install the belt.

My question is, Do the belt marks NEED to match the pulley marks? As long as the pulley marks line up to the timing marks that is.. It shouldn't matter right? Because I lined mine up perfectly. But when I rotated the belts marks no longer matched, but the tiki g was spot on for multiple rotations. And is it possible for the timing to jump? Because like I said it ran perfect, like brand new for a little while. But after a few days it seemed to return to that ever so slightly sluggish mode. Little bit of a hesitation on takeoff. And have a slight burst of speed upon wot at higher rpms. Like around 3500 iirc.

those marks are for guidance so on first installation yes, after rotating them they wont line up again. unless your willing to rotate them until they line up again which I am not sure of. timing will jump if those mark aren't match up to the dots on each cam and crank. one side has a bit more tension than the other side that why there are marks on the belt for that reason.

All new belts don't have alignment marks on them. But I have installed belts that had them, didn't pay any attention to them, just align your c/s gear & cam gears with their marks, roll engine 2 turns & look to see that the 3 marks are still right, move on to assembly.

My belt had no marks on it. I just installed it and made sure the pulley marks lined up with the block marks.

    That was 5000 miles ago.

Toyota puts the marks on the belt for a reason (see post #19) and they use them when they assemble the engine. Same reason you will see 2 tension specs for accessory belts. One for a new belt and one for a used belt with "used" being defined as a belt that has been run for 5-10 minutes or more.
