Why'd you buy your Sport 4x4 instead of OR ?

Why'd you buy a TRD sport 4x4 instead of OR. I didn't realize it wasn't just a rear locker..its ATRAC, rear locker, hydro boost brakes I think, etc.

What good is my 4x4 if my 4 Lo if front and rear goto open diff.? It's a little disappointing...

Come on man, you got the skewp. Just buy lockers, screw the rest of the Mumbo Jumbo.

I wondered about the same thing. If I was going 4x4, I would choose the best 4x4. But some people (me included) do not like all the unpainted Tupperware and actually like the look of the Sport from the scoop to the 17 inch wheels.

The Sport is great for snow, trails, and will go most places the OR can. If you are a serious 4x4 hobbyist, meaning rock climbing in the toughest areas, the OR would be the only choice.

Sounds like you did not do your research. If you are not a hard core off roader , you bought the right truck.

The sport can do just about the same things the OR can do for the average person. Unless you are in competitions or hard core rock crawling, you did just fine. I prefer the painted fender flairs, and the scoop anyway.

Yellow wire mod, OP. I don't know if anyone's done it in a 2016 yet, but its a very simple mod that gives you auto LSD front and rear when in 4LO, the same as you already have in 4HI. Search the forum and read up about it. Maybe some 3rd genners can chime in on whether its been done on the new trucks yet.

I bought my Sport because the only Tacoma platform I would buy was the DCLB. If not for that I would have been in a full-size truck. I would have gotten the off-road if it was available in that configuration in 2013.

Yeah, well with the wife driving it also, we were wanting a happy medium. I despise getting stuck in mud and wanted the 4x4..we just need to be able to get to places to camp.. Possibly out on a beach.

But with the msrp being equal it appeared that the Sport would be more technology driven and have features the Off-road didn't. Not until later did I realize the Off-road has all of the sports things and more. The marketing is misleading. The logical side is telling me we bought the right one with the most comfortable ride for trips and functionality..

The economic side of me is saying I bought a lesser truck for the probably the same price if they would come off the OR the same amount..

I guess I'm really just mad about this dman vibration!!

Yeah I've looked at the mod. But unsure if anyone has done it for the 2016..

I like how it looks better. Don't like all the Tupperware on the OR. Hood is too big and flat and plain looking without the skewp IMO. Planned on adding ARB air lockers anyways. Only regret: wish it had crawl control.

    I wanted the scoop.

Sport does everything the OR will do, except you get a few extra features
designed for off-roading and I don't off road so it was an ez choice for me.

Does the off-road come with a sun roof option?

Your sport has auto LSD in 4H which is very similar to ATRAC I believe.

I was in the same boat a month ago Danielnc06. I spent ALOT of time looking at the differences with the publications, watching a thousand videos even the stupid dealer videos on youtube, just so they can walk me through the truck and reading forums. I ended up ordering the TRD OR without the tech package to make it cheaper and more into the sport price. I know a guy from my local dealer that got me the OR that I wanted for 31000 delivered. If I didnt get that deal I would just get the sport and mod it. Sports sell easier. You should be happy with the sport. As most said mod it with wiring and im sure the 4x4 can go a lot of places with no issues which as is, should go a lot of places! Look at people with sports on this forums, covered in mud and dirt! They are having a great time and going places! What do you see the OR doing more? Climbing rocks...
I am heading to Alaska and plan to explore and hope this truck is the last vehicle I own and I wanted a truck with a lot of OR capability. Last thing I need is to get stuck in the tundra and a bear molest me in the woods... You got a great truck. If you really hate it, take a loss and trade it in.

That's the purpose of this forum, so he can get answers from people with more knowledge and experience than him. And I'm pretty sure all of the people in his life that he knows personally don't all own Tacomas or go offroading.

Iread up on both the OR and Sport 2016 models and I wanted the Sport. However, a fully loaded Sport and OR are about the same price but the OR comes with a bit more stuff for off-roading. With that said, i decided I am going with the OR. The most off roading I will be doing is driving through the snow. I will be driving cross country next year but that will only be a one time event. I also think the OR will have better resale value then the Sport depending upon where you live.

Well that didn't take long for someone to get pissed off/aggravated and make a parody thread.

It was a genuine question...I've spent the last two weeks trying to find this mystery buzz/vibration for myself and other drivers on the other thread and realize I can't ask an opinion question?. This was all assuming they were the same price which is what I see on what people claim they pay..I wanted to know if anyone preferred the Sport 4x4.

    Thanks for the genuine answers/opinions.
