    Hi Eric,

Well, I guess We had a bit of a shambles this morning... I have everything straightened out now though. That video was shot by one of our less experienced Product Advisers, Sorry for the misunderstanding. Then I got dropped out of the chat when I tried to switch from my phone to my desktop. Grrrr.

I am just as excited as you are to be getting the 2017 TRD Pro Tacoma. We have not had any confirmation that it will be coming to Canada, but the TRD Pro Tundra has been a wild success. I am sure that it will be a VERY limited production model, So I will make sure to get out any information I get straight to you.

Thanks so much for all you interest,

    Chris

This is NOT the video in question, but another Tacoma and I found it funny when he was trying to explain some of the features. I get the idea that they really don't know the product.

I wonder how many takes they did in the second video with Son trying to say "maneuverability" before he finally gave up and just garbled through it.

    Reminds me of this:

    Hi Everyone,

This is Chris, I work in the truck centre at the dealership in question. We know that Tacoma owners are some of the most knowledgeable, and loyal customers in this entire industry, and I would like to offer an explanation.

The Tacoma in the video was built up a couple of months ago to try and match the spec on the factory TRD Pro’s that have never been available in Canada. Just because we are car salesmen, doesn’t mean that we aren’t enthusiasts too. We build these trucks as labours of love. If you look at any of the other videos on our site, you can see that we are trying to build the kind of trucks that diehard Tacoma owners would build. In fact we have used builds on this forum for inspiration. We sell 2-3 customized Tacomas, Tundras and 4Runners every week.

When we built that Tacoma, there was no information at all about the 2017 model. We made sure that we put quality parts on it: TRD wheels, Old Man Emu suspension, and BFG K02’s We threw a set of badges on the door for fun, but plainly left the TRD Offroad stickers on the box. There was absolutely NO intention to pass the truck off as anything other than it is: A really nice looking, lightly modified TRD Offroad. We have shown the truck to dozens of customers, and have never represented it as anything other than what it is.

The salesman in the video is new to selling trucks, and has been working hard on his product knowledge for the Tacomas and Tundras. He’s a hardworking guy earning an honest living for his family. He is always asking questions and works hard to be knowledgeable about our products. I was actually supposed to do that video myself, but was unavailable so he took that task on. He looked at the stickers and assumed that, because we had just received our TRD Pro Tundras, that it was a legit TRD Pro Tacoma. It was an error of ignorance. The video was posted before the truck centre manager had had a chance to approve it.

If you would like to see an example of what we were shooting for, This is me doing one for the TRD Pro Tundra:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqNggtru9hg

    And now we are here...

I was one of the guys on the chat program this morning, I was chatting with Eric (I don’t know his tacomaworld handle) He can attest that as soon as he sent me a link to the video, I dropped off the chat.(that was unintentional, I got disconnected when I tried to switch from mobile to desktop). I immediately spoke with management and had it taken down within minutes. .That salesman has just finished shooting a new video, and we'll make sure that it meets our standard of quality and accuracy this time.

I’ve read this whole thread, and I want to assure you that we take this stuff seriously. I have been a lurker on tacomaworld forums since I started selling Toyotas here 7 months ago, and you guys are the best. Your passion and knowledge have helped me go from a complete sales rookie, to the top truck salesman in our store this month. If there is anyone in Calgary that doubts how sincere I am, please feel free to come down and see me. We have as much passion for Tacomas as you do, and we are always working hard to be as knowledgeable as possible.

I live online too, and I know a meme when I see one…So guys, have a laugh at us, We deserve it this time.

    Cheers,

    Chris Berry

    Hi Chris,

Seems plausible enough - From what I remember, the video was posted on 2/26, so no one caught wind of the errors (no one watched it from the dealership?!) Until it was posted here yesterday (3/2) ?

Seems like a huge oversight on your dealership's part!

About the only problem I have with this thread are the folks making fun of the salesman's accent. That's not cool.. Imagine going to a new country and learning the language, getting a job, and making a living. It's not easy. At least he's trying.

Thanks for coming on to the hive mind. As you probably know, some dealerships get ridiculous with markups. For example, putting a 3 inch spacer lift on a truck and 22" rims and calling it the supreme edition and marking it up 10k. Idiots will buy them and think they are cool, but in reality, they are getting ripped. Some deserve it for being so stupid you might say, but most just don't understand.

That is why you get outrage on this site for stuff like misinformation from dealers. Props to you for coming on and explaining. I would suggest implementing some kind of check on videos going out to make sure they are factual or you may come across another issue like this. I hope nobody was fired for this unless there really was malicious intent.

Good luck to the new guy in learning his job. We've all been on the learning end of a career. Every now and then you gotta screw up to learn. Also, I agree with @stan23, you guys are dicks for making fun of his accent on here.

Considering he uses phrases such as, "for the real enthusiast, the 1% of buyers," which is basically the same thing the chief engineer said in an interview with TFL ... I'd say they know exactly what's up and that they're peddlin bullshit.

edit: Here's link to exact point in interview where the engineer says this ...

    https://youtu.be/GexpenV0ucQ?t=92

for some reason it won't go to the time, but skip to 1:30 ...
