New frame difference ??

Does anyone know if or what the difference is between the new frames they are using vs the rusted out frame - beside there is no rust yet ?? Any answer or link appreciated.

 

As far as I know, same frame just different rust coating.

 

I have a feeling this thread will die an early death.

I have done a ton of reading on this subject, and I have no idea if anything is different. I asked the service writer at my dealer, and he said the drainage was different. He pointed to a couple of "new" drainage holes, which happened to be in the same spots as the old frame. His response wasn't very convincing. It is definitely a different frame from my original, but as far as anything being different with the drainage issue, I guess we'll have to wait, and see.

 

Interesting - Thanks for the replies. So far I've got 1 1/2 times book for a 2000 in 2008 and a new frame for a 2008 in 2016 - that' every eight years - wonder what I'll get in 2024 when this frame rusts out - since it is the same frame I'm sure it will ?

 

I'm confused. How can you not know and know? Am I reading it wrong?

 

Exactly what I said, the frame is different, but I'm not convinced that the problem with the original design/rustproofing has been fixed.

So you mean it's different, in that you know you got a new frame? Or it's different in some structural/visual way?

I agree about not being convinced that the quality/rust prevention grade of material has changed....... one can only hope.

 

Well, I have an '05, and I believe the design changed in '07, '08, or '09 due to the problem many had with the motor mounts. So for me, structurally it's definitely different than the original. The body mounts also look different than the original.

Hopefully it is the metallurgy that is different.

 

With the cost Toyota is absorbing from this recall, I can't believe they would continue making the same frame. Improving the steel would be better than a coating, IMHO. But who knows? Someone in Toyota must know.

 

No difference, and if you ask me paint job is even worse on new one than what was on old one. Atlas on old one nobody could see bare metal when it was new.

 

Just hAd frame replaced in my 2005 taco.Looks like my wife's 2013 Frame.Feels like new again. Slight variations in looks ONLY...

 

It still makes me wonder why Toyota has so many problems with rust. Do they ever learn from their mistakes?? Even GM can figure out how to make a good frame
