For all those that wish they could own a new HiLux. I am one of them:frusty::redxfall:
But at least we have the Taco, and I'm curious to find out which is more offroad worthy, the TRD Pro or the HiLux.

It would be great to have the option, but it's small and slow. That wouldn't sell well here.

That towing capacity probably would not be the same under the US standards.

It does look like a great truck for the European market.

Hell they figured out how to get 6 grab handles in it. Compared to my 2016 I'll keep my Tacoma.

I wonder why Toyota doesn't release THAT into the states as a compact truck....along the lines of the Ranger or S10? or has the compact truck market gone? Does anyone still make a compact truck?

The hilux is an indestructible booger. Just look at how they performed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Compact truck market is dead in the states. Been that way since the ford ended the ranger in 2009 iirc

As a midsize. But none the less, I'm excited about it. Because when my time to buy a new truck comes, I'm bailing on the shit show of a sinking ship that is Toyota of America, in favor of a Ford Ranger ecoboost 4wd

I think that died with the end of the ranger in the late 2000's. Like 09-10 or something.

HiLux is ugly, but I would not mind the diesel.

    Last Ranger was '11.

Friend in Guatemala has a 4wd Hilux intercooled turbo diesel 5 speed that's about a '09 or '10. (not what's in the video)

It's not small; it's Gen II size basically. Has a sport hood with scoop, the intercooler lies flat on top of the motor under the scoop. So the scoop is functional.

It's not slow, turbos work well in the mountains on the paved roads, compensating for the lack of power you might have from a gas motor.

But since diesel fuel is cheaper in the rest of the world, it is therefore more practical.

Offroad it is quite capable. We've gone places that people travel regularly on foot or motorcycle (dirt bike), because that's where they live. Most of those 'roads' are what all but the hardcore rock crawler/over-lander types around here would consider pretty difficult, as a mistake will cost your life rolling down the side of a mountain.

I want a brand new Landcruiser 70 series more than anything. Expensive up front but it's a truck you can depend on for 25+ years.

The Nissan Patrol is coming back as the Armada with the updated 5.6L V8. Crossing my fingers for a utilitarian trim level (Pro4x?).

There is some elements of it I like.
A TRD off-road would be more capable off-road then the hilux in my opinion atleast. So a pro would be a lot better. Only advantage I bet the hilux has stock is being a little smaller being able to Maneuver a bit better

It's what the Ridgeline should have been but still not as good as the new Tacoma, imo.
