Fake TRD PRO tacoma - video

Props for coming on here.

But here is the thing, you guys put TRD Pro stickers on it and called it the "brand new TRD Pro", and I'm sure the sales staff start off with that when a new Tacoma customer comes in. From what I read, 2 of these were sold.

It is false advertising that is the messed up part about this whole thing.

Now I will say you did add better after market addons. But I for one would not buy it knowing that it was being sold as the "brand new TRD Pro" instead of just a TRD Off-road with dealer addons.

 

Because you were physically attracted to the salesman?!

 

Props for coming on here and offering an explanation, since that takes some guts even if it is online, and this is a tough crowd, however...

You guys knew better. You knew what you were doing and still did it. It's nice to have an apology but really you're just making an attempt to dig yourself out of the hole you created. Nothing wrong with the mods you did and you're free to mark the truck up to any price you want, but to call it a TRD Pro is just lame and shameful. You guys were trying to lure an unsuspecting buyer with deep pockets thinking they were getting a TRD Pro, and the members here caught on and called your bluff. The sad thing is you've already sold two of these. SO shame on you guys, and to be honest this is probably one of the reasons most people think that car salesman are scumbags and super shady. If I was a car salesman from a different dealership I'd be pissed at you guys as well for giving everyone else a bad name as well. You'll make more money in the long run by being honest and actually taking care of people instead of trying to swindle them, I guess the only reason people aren't that way most of the time is because it actually takes a little more work to be honest.

I see dealer ads advertising 2nd gen SR5's as TRD's all the time... They buy TRD stickers on ebay...
I think Toyota corporate needs to get a handle on their dealerships...or should that be "stealership"?
When I bought my truck I knew more about its features than both salespeople I dealt with!

lol wtf? So because the dealer scams two buyers with fake TRD Pro Tacomas, tries to get away with a third, and gets caught, then apologizes, they're a good dealer? I think nay Sir.

Like others have said, i appreciate you coming on here to give us an explanation, it takes guts.

When I initially posted the thread, i just thought it was kind of funny, i honestly couldn't tell at first if the saleman knew if it was a legit trd pro or not.

On the other hand, as others pointed out i could see how it could be seen as fraud.

I know the guy is just trying to make a living and who am i to judge anyone, and i didn't mean for anyone to get into trouble.

There isn't anything wrong with upgrading the truck to make it more offroad capable, but putting the trd pro badges on there and calling it the pro just isn't cool.

Either way i hope you guys learned your lesson and good luck with future sales.

 

Yes, earlier in the thread it was mentioned that they already sold one or two of these trucks.

Someone there told me they sold a black one of these and it was mentioned somewhere else that they sold a white one, as well.

Chris and Gideon were both very professional but I cannot condone the practice of any dealership badging a truck as a 'better' truck that the manufacturer makes, has made, or will make. I see this as fraud from a dealership to its customers.

Thanks for coming on here and clearing things up. All confusion aside, it's a GREAT looking truck.

 

you know they stopped making FJs, right? The 'an' was not the only thing I changed

 

I mean, if I were a new salesman on the floor having to do a video and I needed to prep ASAP, I'd probably go straight to the source for material too.

 

So your saying if the dealer put an FJ badge on a RAV4, it wouldn't be an FJ? And yes I did know Toyota stop shipping them here.
