I think my power steering pump pulley bearings are on their way out. (Squeaking quieted by a spray of lube.) Can I replace the bearings or the entire pulley or will I need to replace the entire pump? If the bearings are replaceable, can anyone tell me what size and how many bearings? Thanks.

sure its not the belt?i dont think if it was bearing noise you could stop it with spray lube.

Yea what he said^... Try lubing just the belt if it starts up again and inspect it for cracking and splits. Also if you suspect it is the bearing you can check it easily by using a wooden broom handle and your ear. While the engine is idling hold the blunt end of the wooden rod to the pulley and put your ear up against it and listen. If its the bearing you will hear the grinding and rumbling noise easily...

I don't think so. (I assume you're suggesting the belt may be slipping on the pulleys.) Maybe it's the bushing???? When I spray WD 40 or Bel Ray 6 in 1 where the pulley connects to the water pump housing while the motor is running, it quiets for a few hours of driving. I'm not spraying anywhere near the belt.

Thanks for your help. The belt is in good shape, but it's been on the truck for 55k miles, so it probably could used replacing. I need to remove the belt and spin the pulley to see if it's the bearings. I'm just trying to determine if it is in fact the bearings if I need to budget for a pump.

I'm looking at the diagram---maybe this thing doesn't even have bearings! I'll take off the belt and go from there. Thanks all!

I don't think I've ever seen a Tacoma P/S pump make noise. I'd bet good money it's the belt.
