After 5 years with the current version of the tacoma, I am wondering if anyone has heard if there is going to be a model change in 2011? 5 or 6 years is typically the life span of any model with out real change. I am curious as to what the engineers at toyota are going to come up with for the next carnation of the Taco. I can think of a number of things they might try and improve on, gas mpg for one. Has anyone heard of anything new coming coming down the pike?

I hear they are going to change in 2012. New motor, better gas, basically what they have done in the new 4Runner.

I was planning on doing a write up when my girlfriend's 4runner comes in. We test drove one the other day. I can't wait to see what the new tacoma's will have. I know some people don't like it, but that's because it's new. Give it some time, sit in one, it will grow on you.

Maybe they'll just start making the old tundra with tacoma badges on it. Since the new one is so big.

A V8 would be cool, but I think one of the more attractive qualities about the Tacoma is that it is quite capable with a V6, its the main reason why I'm choosing this truck to get into, so I can get outta my Z06.
Being a noob, i'll comment on this "whats coming down the pipeline for the tacoma" thread. I would guess that with ever tightening fuel efficiency standards in the world; hopefully toyota will develop a 6cylinder engine that will increase gas mileage across the board while at the same time, maintaining or slightly increasing performance....other than that; as long as they keep a model with a six speed manual, i'd be happy

New 4 runner V-6 makes 270HP and gets better mileage.....

Expect to see that stronger V-6 along with the new angular looking frontend facelift for 11' or 12'.

It's supposed to come in around the 2nd, not sure if I'll be a civillian by then or not, but lord knows I'm trying.

I think the new standard the government put in place will have a strong influence on the new truck. I'm sure toyota wants to be the first to reach the 20whatever goals the gov set. I wouldnt be surprised to see a whole new engine. Maybe hybrid.

Ya the Government is trying to get each company to have an average MPG of 25 or so and they are putting a low mileage limit an each class the vehicle is in. Im pretty sure the midsize is somewhere around 25 too. I think a true hybrid or small diesel would be awesome!

Past history of the tacoma.... 95.5 up to 2004 tacomas were all the same in engine/chassis/etc. That's 9 years.

We might not see a totally different tacoma till 2013.

    But, ya never know.

I would like to see the European "HI-LUX" version deployed in North America, but with tree-hugger restrictions here, that'll never happen without it being watered down.......

i can see dual vvti for the v6 a face lift maybe some new options but other than that i doubt there will be much. I don't think you will ever see a v8 in a tacoma from the factory they just started making the I4 access cab last year which is a step in the opposite direction
