I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
This is crazy, its really not that hard to get correct level if you want it. I understand shady tree mechanic having trouble but dealership should have not much issue.
All it is, truck needs to have full level, with all air purged out of the system.
Not so hard to achieve if you know what you doing. Sad part is there will be massive amount of dead transmissions in years to come.

Easy to just check yourself with the jumper wire. No need to deal with the dealership and HOPE that they actually checked it, no need to drop it off for 2-3 hours or overnight so it can "cool".
Just do it in your garage/parking spot... so easy.

That's the exact same cheapo plastic pump I used and it worked flawlessly. :bananadance:

So the wire is it used to connect pins 4 and 13 in the OBD port?
did you use the diagnostic mode watching for the D light up. Would a infrared laser temp on the pan give a close enough temp reading if you checked like around the 109 degrees to give a few degree shift of temp from the laser reading?
    Thanks

Does anyone know if i purchased a OBD Reader to where i could see the transmission temperature on my phone is all i would have to do is run it till i got it to 113 degrees, and then take the check plug out to verify the transmission level? I have read the procedure, but there is descriptions on the thermostat and using a jumper. It honestly just conpletely confuses me. My truck hasnt really shown any sypmtoms of low fluid, but i want the peace of mind.

Yep, found no grease around my U-joints today when I decided to check and grease them. Has been in for her 5000 mile check up also. Took 5 pumps each before any resistance was felt, so they have not been filled with grease at the factory or since............!!!!

That could work, but the challenge will be finding an OBD reading that can pull A/T Temp.

I'm trying to do the same... Get the ATF temperature via the OBD2 port that is. Let us know if you find the right PID.
I've found that 2016 tacomas with the multi-function display do not have the 'A/T Oil Temp' indicator on the dash.
As is the case with my AC 2WD TRD Sport

I am having trouble getting the D shift indicator to come on for 2 seconds and enter fluid temp detection mode. I am following the PDF instructions and got nothing. I have jumped the terminals and have warning lights flashing and I am moving the stick between N and D for a second and got nothing. Anyone have any advice?

As I said, 2016 tacomas with the multi-function display do not have the 'A/T Oil Temp' indicator on the dash.
ATF over-heated warning comes through the multi-function display.

I've yet to figure out ATF check for my truck.
The OBD2 port might be an option, but the said PID 2182 doesn't work either.

The infrared reading is probably not reliable enough...

Of course I like to be proven wrong, but the above information came from the manual, page 82.

I have a lifetime warranty on my engine, transmission, etc through my dealer, so if anything ever goes wrong for as long as I own the vehicle its on them! Otherwise, I would be having my ATF fluid checked STAT! Although, I'm having zero shifting issues so who knows.

very slight hesitation when its below zero out and I drive right away. I think that is normal. If I wait for a warmup, no delay. Dealership reported good level.

Just got done checking mine using the jumper method.
    3/4 quart low; Baja-9/15
    Took me about an hour.
    Marginal improvement noted; feels 'tighter'.
    R-D shift is much improved.

Previous trip to dealer, they only checked for codes/updates.
Did the whole corporate song and dance...
Dealer could not guarantee fluid would be checked if symptoms could not be replicated.

    Edit;
Screwed up my math... It was actually 1-1/8 qt(36 ounces) low.

    It's not a solid D.
It just won't show the N anymore when doing the N-D-N-D cycle.
