Buzzy Vibration at certain RPM's..read before buying!

As has been said, time and time again, the buzz referenced in this thread is rpm related, not speed related. You aren't experiencing the same issue.

 

Who knows...Bob on first shift may be forgetting one crucial bolt not written in his procedures while Joe on second knows what to do...I can only hope it's that simple but it really feels like a resonance issue which is hard to diagnose but could be very easy to fix..

This seems less likely if both plants have problem trucks..

 

Its between 2100 and 2300 rpms. Really feel it in the OD 5th and 6th. Its not speed related or engine related. If i put it in N and rev it up i cannot duplicate it. Nor if im coasting in N will it happen. Only under load at 2100-2300rpm. Guys you all know what this is?? Damn transmission vibes..or converter vibes...converter locks in 6th gear and i beleive thats why its so pronounce in that gear at that rpm at that speed... 6th gear 75-80 mph puts u in the "sweet" spot for "good good vibration"...lol

I got 1900 miles on mine and the transmission finally shifts and down shifts at the correct times.

On a side note when coming to a stop u can feel the tranny shutter and the rpms dance beteeen 500 and 1200 rpms. Like the converter is just out of round....or loose if u will. Had a 86 monte carlo with same vibes and shutters....torque converter ended up failing. I hope thats not whats going on here.

Yeah the shuttering is annoying as it downshifts as you are slowing..it doesn't release completely...unusually drive MT so I'm not as used to AT's as some...

.but to stay on track..

The vibration isn't auto transmission specific. Several MT drivers here have it as well...so it's at least not a torque converter issue.

It is interesting that you only feel it in 5/6th.. Most of us feel it in every gear..

 

I was told the same, they called after I filed the issue on Toyota's site. I don't see anyone
getting any resolution at this point so I am not going to waste my time at the dealer for
1/2 a day or more to be told "that's normal".

 

That's mine that's number 1 on that list....glad others are finally starting to put in some complaints...would like to see more; however, I was speaking to a dealer internet manager yesterday who told me that most of the buyers are younger males and, even though he's been told about the vibration issue, most buyers don't care....he thinks it's a demographics thing (he's only 30, so it's not like an old guy thought...). Told me he'd be happy to take mine in trade and could sell it in less than a few days. Personally not interested in another one...either they fix it, or I'm on to something else...

 

The SR5 they gave me as a loaner on the day the Engineers were testing my Limited had it, but barely...you really had to go looking for it to find it, and it would be tolerable if that's all it was....unfortunately, with all the reports of people who don't have it for several thousand miles, then suddenly do, my opinion is that it is inherent to the truck, overall....

 

Yeah, the problem for me definitely developed, it was not there early on. And it is definitely worse (covers a broader RPM range) now since some of my tinkering. I attribute that to putting things back together different/tighter/looser.

 

And if it is inherent and unavoidable, they could at least isolate, the accelerater..it would be VERY easy, it's electronic! The steering wheel is mechanical but I believe it could be isolated as well..

 

Depending on how I feel things go for me during this round @ the dealer this weekend, I may try to seek out some TW members local to me that have '16s without vibration issues. Maybe I can find someone that is willing to stop by and let me molest their truck for a couple of hours.

 

So you admit that you messing with yours may have made yours worse and then you all to borrow someones vibration free one?.. Good thing you're not in sales.

My 99 tacoma sr5 4x4 has been running for 17 years! Rock solid. Recently purchased a new one bc the 99 monster truck that it is cant handle freeway commutes to good any more.... Hate to say it yall but i dont think Toyota is as rock solid as it used to be. Toyota motors has really been skimping on durability and dependability as of lately. Starting to think Toyota is selling us all short.

 

Remember the "Knocking" issues on Gen2....Keep complaining and complaining. They will cave in and come up with a fix. Toyota knows that reputation is everything these days. Good job people. Keep complaining UNTIL they fix it.

Toyota, Fix it or I will NEVER buy another Toyota.

Until the issue is resolved and some of the other issues I do not plan to purchase a Tacoma..
Loved my 06. There are just too many issues being identified to purchase a your 3gen.

 

Don't feel bad, for me the problem has worsened all on its own!

 

@busticator and @Danielnc06, any thoughts on the role ambient temperatures may play here? I wonder because usually the vibs aren’t present when the engine is cold. For instance, let the engine sit overnight and start off for the first 5 minutes. Then I’ve noticed some very rare occasions, even after the engine fully warms up, when the vibs aren’t present. It's only happened a few times. The only thing I can correlate it too is ambient temperatures around 56-60 degrees. At best it lasts for 30 minutes, but it will always show up after 30 minutes or so, even if the temps hold in that range. Could just be a red herring.

 

Mine appears worse in the 50 degree range or the engine is cold... I had a 70degree day that felt the best that it ever has...but I may be a minority..
