What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Looks like they are about half the price. Would like to hear some comments of both before any decisions are made....

 

Not quite. Weathertechs are $100.00 for the pair for DC. AVS are $70.00 for the pair for DC.

 

I installed the avs in channel visors about a year ago and I've had no issues whatsoever. Install was simple and best part was my local advanced auto parts had them in stock, so no waiting.

 

On second thought, after going to check outs on both, they are half the price. AVS has free shipping and a 15% discount code.

Weathertechs come out to be $115 shipped to me. AVS come out to be $60 shipped to me.

 

Interesting. So one good comment for AVS so far. Now I'm starting to reconsider who I'm going with, especially because of the price like I posted in my post above after going to each checkout.

 

I think most people go with weathertech because of the name. I also considered them but it's a pretty simple product, (no electrical parts or really any structural components), so it'd be pretty hard to mess that up as a manufacturer. Why pay more if it doesn't give any advantage besides a name. This is all just my opinion though.

 

Pretty sure mine are AVS. They were on the truck when I bought it. I've had I a year and haven't had any issues with them. They aren't the in channel style but still work well.

 

So far it's looking like AVS FTMFW!

 

I put EGR in channel visors on about 5 months ago and have had no issues with these either.

 

Checked my local Advanced Auto Parts, no stock. But the one in the next town over has them in stock. Maybe a 10 minute drive from my house.

And the price is the same at the store as it is on the Auto Anything store after the discount. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

 

I've got EGR in-channel on my Tacoma, and AVS in-channel on my GMC Denali. AVS are a little thicker material, and feel a bit more firm. The GMC also has auto up/down windows which makes me think I may have been better off with the AVS. Purchased both at Auto Anything. Always have good prices and customer service with them.

 

Yeah, I don't think I paid that much for mine at the time I got mine. I honestly don't remember how much though.

What I would personally recommend on any brand is to get "in channel" ones. I've had both in channel and the others. In channel look and work better IMO.

You would not believe the difference. Like night and day. I bought this truck back in September of 15 and have been contemplating doing this since I got it. I wasn't sure about my two tone choice at first but when they were in, they matched perfectly. Especially with black dash, center console and trim on the doors. Thanks for the compliment. If anyone is thinking about doing this, I highly recommend it. Gives the truck a more luxury feel. Plus, my daughter plays travel softball and she totally trashed the cloth seats in the 2011 I had. Red softball field dirt killed cloth. Leather seats will be a lot easier to clean.

 

How much did the set you back?

Yeah, I bought my 2015 in June, because son born in August. I specifically wanted the SR5, but the cloth seats look like they will be a cleaning nightmare (already accidentally got dog shit on them from the bottom of his carseat, that was a great day ), and I've been thinking about covers of some sort that are easier to clean.

 

$1300 installed. I was going to just buy the covers and do the install myself but I am no upholstery guy. Did not want to jack the damn things up from the get go. So, I opted to pay for install. Could have saved myself $400-$500 by doing it myself but it would have taken me forever to do. Took upholstery shop 2 1/2 hours start to finish. Actually wife had them done for me while I was out of town, last week. Bless her.

 

Hmmm. Thanks. From their site, it looks like they steer you to installers. But just purchasing and doing it yourself is an option? I've watched enough Wheeler Dealers and West Coast Customs to be an expert on this LOL. I guess I'll just need to contact them.

 

Look up Jhuey8947 on this site and he will hook you up. I was going to buy from him but my wife had this done for me while I was out of town. John is a super nice guy and will work with you on a design. Wish I could have bought from him but wife jumped the gun on me. Can't be mad though. She totally surprised me with a great upgrade to my truck. Give John a shout.
