Vet's are still people. There are some good and some not so good. Can't paint them with too wide of a brush. As a vet I appreciate your acknowledgment and respect however we still have to be accountable for our actions. If he did you wrong, he needs to make it right or he isn't worth a damn as a Man, IMO.

My 2¢: If it's an actual business you were dealing with; licensed, bonded, insured, etc, go back and have them fix it. If it was some rando throwing you a bro deal, still go back and raise hell, but don't expect a damn thing to come of it. Live and learn.

It's not really about the money, just the hassle. I don't have the time to deal with it, and figured a guy who had been at it for 30 years would know better.

So tell him that (that he should know better) not the internet. You say you want to avoid the awkward conversation with him. So don't have it. Suck it up, chalk it down to experience and pay for your truck to be repaired. Or don't and live with the scratches. But moaning about it on here won't solve anything.

Being afraid to confront people when they mess your stuff up is fine, but at some point in time you'll have to deal with it or you'll be walked all over for the rest of your life. This is a good opportunity to try it out. If he really is a decent guy he'll at least apologize for his sloppy workmanship.

Was not intending to 'moan', just was seeing what other guys with experience in Audio install and the like might see as possible next steps, repair options. Not bitching, just exploring the possibility that there might some additional wisdom in the forum.
I am not afraid of confrontation, believe me. I do try to empathize with small time shops and think something through before I fly off any given handle.

Unfortunately when you pay the "buddy price" I don't think as much care is taken as if you were a full price paying customer. Gotta get in you and out quickly so they can bring in the next higher paying job. Not an excuse for shotty work but usually how it goes down.

At this point, you can just call him and tell him about the damage. Explain how it was late when you picked up the truck. Offer to send him photos. See what his response is.

Fair enough. And I certainly wasn't suggesting flying off the handle. Not my style either, it never solves anything just makes you feel frustrated.

Interior repairs are (unfortunately) extremely hard and expensive and never look quite the same as before. I'm not sure what the 3rd gens are like but my 2nd gen can be easily scratched with a fingernail ( I've had to learn to live with a few after giving up on trying to protect the interior from every little nick.

If the audio instal itself is sound (excuse the pun) aside from the damage, maybe just chalk it up to a bad experience, get insurance to cover the cost of new panels and enjoy your new sound system.

A lesson for everyone to learn from though (at your expense unfortunately)

I would be mad as fu*k, what the hack job! I would be interested in what it looks like behind the panels...

I remember once seeing someone has their windshield replaced and their whole dash and A pillar covers were gouged..... I'd be sick to my stomach!

Some people just don't care or even notice when they damage stuff - especially on a truck it seems. Such a shame. Pride in workmanship is a rare thing.

But you have time to post about it. Seriously, if it doesn't matter to you, don't do anything. I don't have a problem asking people to correct a mistake after I paid them good money to do it correctly. I wouldn't even be mad about it.... people make mistakes, but I'd be mad if they didn't want to make it right.

Talked to the owner, he was embarrassed and apologetic, going to fix it. I think he is a stand up guy.

Have the shop use their insurance...FWIW if you let it pass he will never get his act/business together...Substandard work would not be acceptable to any Vets I know
