A lot, actually. I wasn't sure how I'd like the over-ears, but they're a lot better than the LGs I had that hang around your neck. Sound quality is pretty good, too, surprisingly.

I love my over-ear headphones, too. And they were only like $40

Ok - long time lurker, first fitness post. Similar story to the 55 year old fella a few pages back who started getting fit back in September. I turned 41 this past July. I have a gorgeous wife and 4 kids who, I suspect, are gonna want me to be really annoying to them for a long, long time. I spent the first 41 years of my life doing literally nothing for my health. So I decided it was time to change.

In mid-December '15 I put up a squat rack in my garage, bought a bench, a bar and some plates. I had no idea what exactly I was doing, but found 5x5 online. Without any better options, I started lifting on 12/21. Empty bar, and that was my PR. Squats, deadlifts, OH press, bench press, barbell row followed. About a week into it I set some goals, something to keep me moving forward.

This morning I hit my first goal of a body weight squat set. 225lbs, 5 sets of 5 reps. On Wednesday ran 220lbs 5x5 plus 235lb 1x5 deadlift.

I wanted to get it out there, but not a braggy Facebook post, to some like minded folks who'd be able to appreciate the joy of adding plates.

    And that is all.

I haven't found an over the ear set that doesn't bother my ears after a while. I like my buds but after ripping then out of my ears a few times I end up in silence to pissed off too use them for a while

That's great progress. Keep up the good work. It always helps when you are training for a goal other than yourself (your family).

Congrats! Keep it up. Turns into an addiction.

These make my ears hot after a while, but there's gonna be a trade off with everything.

My other wireless set got in the way for front squats. My wired set got ripped out of my ears too often.

So, I was asking earlier about what each of you are training for. The reason I was asking is because I myself am having a hard time defining why I train. It used to be purely for size. I realized I wanted more go than show, so I then transferred over to strength only. And now I am like wait a second.........my training is literally counterproductive to what I actually like to do outside of the gym (surf, fish/dive/hunt). I was getting burnt out and didnt have the energy to do these things on a daily basis if I wanted to.....my training was getting in the way. So over the course of the last 6 months I have been concentrating more on movements and programming that supplement these activities and still allow me to be fully recovered the next day.

    195 vs. 175

I am not exactly happy with the change but I do feel better at this weight and I know I would like to build upon this new base.

Those are all things I love to do as well. I am on the same page as you as far as wanting the training to help improve those activities as opposed to lift or go surf for instance. I can't do upper body hard then try and surf when my arms feel like noodles

The only downside to the over-ear ones are how hot they get. I thought it was just me. It's not that big of a deal though. I hate buds now, but I keep my spare Apple ones on standby, just in case my wireless ones die.

Nice. I like your look better at 195, but I'm all about aesthetics lol. You do look more functional at 175 and you still look like you lift, so it's a win-win. None of my hobbies involve being fast, so big is my goal. I think the most physical hobby I have is hunting or fishing and neither one of those requires me to break a sweat lol

And this is why I am frustrated. I will try to find a happy median.

On this bulk i trained almost exclusively for strength. Until the last month. Maybe 2 months. Then I started incorporating more mass building techniques. My strength went through the roof but I definitely didn't get very much bigger.

But if you surf and stuff, I'm sure it's much more fun and easier at 175. I do nothing high speed and at work am constantly moving heavy objects, so pure size/strength would be beneficial to me over being limber. What were you doing when you were that size? Higher reps/lower weight? Or high weight low rep

I like the 195 look better but I'm sure it's easier to maintain at 175

I was doing an 5 day a week oly lifting program adapted for powerlifting. Basic low rep explosive movement followed by medium rep strength on main lifts then high rep bodyweight accessory. I can send you the info....I just have to find it.
