just getting back into mt biking, I was at the local bike shop and seen fat tire mt bikes. My question is how much effort is needed to push those fat tires? Benefits over a traditional sized tire? Do the fat tires make for a smoother ride? I currently have a cross country canondale 29er.

Fat bikes are awesome for snow and sand because of the large contact patch. They do well as a mtn bike, but are typically heavier. I ride my fat bike all year round. Different tires based on the situation. Different pressures as well. I will pretty much guarantee it won't be faster than your 29er. I find them much more fun. Kind of like riding a monster truck bike.

From last weekend, great day out so early in the year, also my first ride over an hour with my new carbon fiber seat and seat post.

I need to get back out and do more riding. I hate that life gets in the way of things some times.

Been hitting Alafia State Park hard. The camber absolutely shreds. I'm surprised how fast my riding skills are coming back.

I learned how to ride on a hand-me-down hard tail/v brakes Raleigh that was a whole size too big for me and I think that really helped. I had to chose my lines wisely and be really careful how I rode, the bike definitely didn't inspire confidence. Some trails I couldn't ride some of as it would just get out of control.

Going from that to a Camber Carbon Comp 650B is almost indescribable. I find my self taking riding a lot harder, I'm a lot more confident on the down hills and I find y self doing sections of trails I had to walk previously. I throw my self into down hills without thought that I previously would have walked, knowing that whatever these trails dish out the bike will eat up.

To sum it up I would say the Camber is about a perfect trail bike. IMO It strikes a perfect balance between an FS XC bike and an Enduro/Free ride bike.

Well it depends on your size, terrain, riding style budget?

Any particular reason you want a full squish?

I'm pretty new to mountain biking, I used to ride a good bit of single track in jersey but their wasn't much elevation change just the occasional log. I'll mainly be riding trails in eastern PA or wherever I find. I live about a half mile from wissahickon park which supposedly has some decent trails

I would eventually like to do some racing if I could get into it, just cause I have always wanted to try it. Main reason for going full suspension is because I have been under the impression that they are faster, allowing you to kind of plow through shit instead of using finesse like on a hard tail.

Budget is pretty low, ideally I would get a left over model at a price discount but looking around $2k

Well I live in Lancaster PA and we have a lot of rocky technical terrain. $2k is a healthy budget! Also what type of racing? Cross country racing full suspension bike is much different than an enduro bike. Main differences are geometry (slack vs steep) and travel amount. For reference, I race enduro on a 2014 Specialized enduro comp that's been fully customized. I would not race cross country on that as it wouldn't be nearly as efficient as a hard tail or Cx full suspension.

    image.jpg

I like my 29er a lot. Others prefer 27.5 wheels. If you are taller than 5'10" a 29er might be your cup of tea.

Kona precept DL is a great starter full squish. You could always buy used to get more bang for buck, if you really know what you are looking at lol.

I honestly don't know what type of racing I would do, I just enjoy competion so it would basically be whatever is avalible. I am 5'11" so I think I could do a 29, but I've never ridden one and don't know how I would feel about the high center of gravity. I really just want a bike that I can push and go fast on.

I have looked around on Craigslist and haven't seen much for deals, mainly older bikes. Aside from the suspension part I'm very familiar with bikes, I rode bmx while in highschool and I gave recently been putting a lot of miles on my roadbike.

Good luck with this. We have been on a multi-year fight to reopen an area where they supposedly found asbestos. The science doesn't support the blm claims but the area remains closed or more accurately, severely restricted to access.

Spent this past weekend on a bachelor party/riding trip to Laguna and Mt. Wilson. What a great time! Telonix and the surrounding trails are the shit! We all brought trail and DH bikes and got an awesome amount of riding on both bikes.

29ers are great because you sit between the wheels and not on top if that makes sense. I'd suggest you go to your local bike shop and ride a few to test

Have you had any issues with your bottom bracket creaking?
The shop has worked on my Enduro quite a few times, and it just keeps coming back.

I did but because I had a cheap pf to externally threaded adapter. Spent money on the praxis bb adapter and it's been smooth ever since. And where I ride has a lot of grit and sand
