I'm pretty familiar with the Toyota warranty and I don't see anywhere a clause stating "Guaranteed to last forever" or "Bumper to bumper 12 year 150,000 mile manufacturer warranty." What "rights" are you referring too?

Sure it sucks to have a frame issue but it seems like they are making a reasonable effort on a 10+ year old vehicle to replace the issue on the ones that have it

I see what you're saying. So basically you are stating that people who look at the frame of a vehicle before they buy it, do research on recalls and other important matters, take proper care of their vehicle and bring it to the attention of a dealership when it is beyond their control and work with said dealership or automotive company are pussies who let people walk all over them? I get you have to fight for your rights but how about fighting the urge of being lazy and taking proper measures to protect what you have earned?

It is well established by case law that as a consumer you have legal protections against manufacturing defects that become apparent after the terms of a warranty have expired provided that said defect was known to the manufacturer. The issue here, if you have not figured this out, is that neither Toyota or their dealership made proper notification of the defect. Therefore, the legal protection of the warranty and/or extension thereof is still legally in effect and binding upon the manufacturer.

You haven't answered any questions about your truck yet. Did you buy it new or from a private seller? Do you live in a snow belt/salt road state?

As someone previously stated if you don't live in one of those states that dumps an ass pile of salt on the roads every winter then that could be why you didn't get a recall notice. If you bought from a private party and didn't let TMC know that you are now in possession of one of their vehicles and gave them an address or a PO Box then chances are they sent the recall notice to the previous owner. Also if you live under a rock somewhere and never come out in to the world to socialize, then that would be why you have never heard of the correlation of rusty frames and Toyota. It's all the buzz when anyone mentions Toyota trucks; drive train last forever, frames are rusted piles of scrap.

Someone posted a link to a thread where there is a lawsuit being claimed. Follow that link and then those steps to hopefully get a satisfactory result, which I sincerely hope you do. However, if all you want to do is get on a forum and start a thread complaining about something that you didn't take the time to research and are now pawning the responsibility off on to someone else in hopes for a pity party and for someone to hold your hand, wipe your tears and massage your ego while gobbling your cock until you fall asleep, I'm afraid that you are out of luck. Good luck OP.

..."binding upon the manufacturer"... who is currently replacing said frames in a reasonable manner...

In all reality you could have very much have prevented extensive frame rot if you would occasionally looked under the truck and take precautionary measures. Many which include wirebrush and re coating the frame. When it does get bad then you take it to toyota and schedule a frame inspection. However if you bought the truck without having looked at the frame and determining that it maybe prone to rust, then i am afraid you are in need of researching your vehicle more and knowing the faults in tacomas. I am sorry that you just learned about this long going issue with the rust, but when everyone has heard of it and you havent this just raises too many questions about yourself.

You purchased a vehicle used, used it for many years I imagine, and were going to trade it in. What will they give you for a 12 year old truck? Maybe $2K, especially at a dealer. You could sell it for that anywhere, and even with the rust someone may want to tackle it themselves. Getting bent out of shape at the Dealers and Toyota is not helping you at all. Maybe try another dealer?

I had my frame replaced last fall and it did NOT have the undercoating. But I live in the Midwest. My truck lived in ks all its life before I bought it.

The point that seems to be being missed here is that I did take good care of the truck, serviced it regularly and at the prescribed intervals, took care to keep the underside clean in the winter months, and it still rusted severely due to the fact that it was never properly rust-proofed by the dealer, as should have been done according to the technical service bulletin sent to the dealers by Toyota Motor Corp. Further, I was never notified by TMC of the rust-proofing program, which I would be able to forgive had I never had it at a Toyota dealership for service, but the fact is that I had it at a Toyota dealership for service multiple times during the time in which the rust-proofing program was in effect, and was never informed of it by the dealership. I am not a mechanic by trade. I am a computer systems engineer. If a computer manufacturer sends me a technical bulletin regarding an issue with a given model of computer, I make sure that any of these which my clients use are properly attended to. I do not think it is unreasonable expectation for an auto dealership to do the same when the manufacturer the make which they sell informs them of a defect which can lead to a situation like what I am faced with now. I am not alone in this. If you look around you will find many others that this exact thing has happened to. My point here is that if Toyota and a number of its dealerships were remiss in their obligation to the owners of these vehicles, and should compensate those who were harmed as a result.

The sympathy of fellow Toyota Tacoma owners is quite over-whelming. The majority of your posts assume that I have mistreated my truck, failed to service it, or have done things which otherwise placed me in the position I am in. If this were the case I could accept what many of you are saying, but it is not. I have been conscientious about every aspect of maintenance of this vehicle of which I was aware. The fact that the dealership and TMC failed to make me aware of an issue which proved to be fatal for the vehicle was not, and is not my fault any more than it is the fault of many others who this happen to. Toyota has been very good about replacing the frames or compensating the owners of irreparable vehicles for the most part, but they let a good number of us slip through the cracks also. It is only fair that when a situation such as this arises that they deal fairly with those which they failed to notify when the vehicles were being serviced by Toyota dealerships.

Toyota knew I owned the truck, because I did receive a notice about the spare tire lift plate.

I assume from quoted response you're not the original owner.

1.) How long have you owned the truck?

2.) Did you purchase it from a Toyota dealer?

3.) Do you know how many previous owners there were of your truck?

But I do find it fascinating that you were or are trying to buy a 3rd gen. It seems as though the 3rd gen derp disease has struck again.

I am the second owner of the truck, and did not purchase it from a Toyota dealership. I did, however, have it serviced at a Toyota dealership, and Toyota was aware that I was the owner because they sent me a recall notice regarding the spare tire lift plate. The thing that seems to keep getting missed in this thread is that Toyota failed to notify me and their dealership failed to notify me of the frame rusting issue when the truck was in for service during the period in which the rust-proofing/inspection program was in effect. That is the core of my complaint. I am aware that this is an old truck, I am aware that it has 220K miles on it, but my argument is that the frame has become fatally damaged because of Toyota's failure to notify me that there was a rust issue and a solution to it when they had every opportunity to do so.
