This is the so wrong. 4 strokes are reliable and easy to tell if something is wrong. Thats like saying dont buy a used car cause its a 4 stroke

Not to mention 4 strokes require less maintenance than a 2 stroke. 2 strokes are just easier to rebuild and thats it.

    That's what I'm getting at. I'd rather rebuild a 2 stroke than a 4 stroke.

What kind of gear do you wear when riding? I still need to get a jacket and a backpack of some sort.

On warm days I usually wear breathable armor like this with a jersey over it, textile riding pants, and dual sport boots. Very good at keeping me from sweating.

On colder days I wear a textile jacket with removable liner along with all of the other stuff.

Every now and then I'll just throw on a jacket with normal boots and jeans for a quick ride. Don't recommend this though...

Oooh sounds like textile is what I want then. I'm looking for something to wear when riding to work

    :amen:
If you had bought the right 4stroke, you wouldn't have to worry about rebuilding for a long time. Plus, they are so much more forgiving to learn on. I hope that 2stroke doesn't make you hate motorcycles when it absolutely beats your ass on your first trail ride. I would never reccomend a 2atroke for a first time rider.
Links to my gear are in the OP. Nothing fancy. $200 textile jacket with removable liner, $120 helmet, $90 goggles, $20 gloves, work pants and work boots. I do have a pair of riding boots but i haven't ridden with them yet

Leather isn't necessary unless you're riding a sport bike or doing an (asphalt) track day.

Dont really think its even that much different tbh. Engine rebuilds arent hard.

I have a variety of gear: mesh, leather, tshirt

    Wut.

How is the bike a contributing factor? A low side going 65 is going to be a lot less painful in motorcycle leather then in textile, no matter the kind of bike you're on.

Note that I said motorcycle leather, not your old winter jacket from macy's.

    I can't afford that shit.

I went down at 55 in denim and was fine.

    image.jpg

Still use that jacket for trail rides

The jacket i have now is the updated version in textile with way more armor

That looks like pretty good, purpose built denim though.

Leather gets cheaper when you crash A LOT :anonymous: because it can withstand more crashes before burning through.
FWIW you can still get road rash (of a sort) and burned through leather even when the leather holds up. Any protection is better than no protection though (again, if you crash)

    Your point is invalid :p

30mph and you can still get scraped up. Who cares how "fast" a bike is. I wear my leather a* out on the drz cause in the end its still gonna save my skin.
Textile/mesh will melt too and get stuck to the skin. They also wear through fast and youll still get road rash.

The same applies for other activites, lol :spy:
