Went to start my truck yesterday and couldn't.

I'm pretty sure the battery is good. Lights come on, get a 12.6 voltage reading on it.

However the radio doesn't come on and the clutch start cancel button (which I've had to use for a few years) won't engage. Turn the key and nothing happens.

    Any suggestions? Thanks

    - Will your winshield wipers turn on?
    - Honk your horn and hold it down for a bit. Does the sound start to get quieter?

If your answer is Yes to both of those then I'd say it's the battery. Especially since the radio won't even turn on.

You can also check all the sides of the battery. If any of them are not flat and are slightly bulging out then you have a blown cell in your battery.

How did you get the 12.6 reading? You need to take a reading with a load on the battery. Turn on the lights then check you multi meter reading. I bet its a lot less than 12.6v.

Whoa dang, voltage goes down to 11.9 with lights on. It's a nice interstate battery that's supposed to last 6 years and it's only three years old. I'll go get a new battery.

Is it wierd it just up and quit?

No, a 6 year battery sometimes lasts 3 years. Where do you live? If it's the hot desert 3 years is pretty decent.

They do that nowadays, no warning!
Might have something to do with all the electronics in cars now. Power vampires and microdraws when the car is shut down.

I'm in gunnison Colorado. So, generally real cold, unseasonably warm now but still cold compared to most places. Probably 30 f now. Which is warm. So does interstate have a 6 year warranty usually or should I just go get a oreilly battery as oreilly is the only place open on Sunday's or try and warratee the interstate tomorrow?

I'd get interstate to warranty the battery.

What's voltage when you try cranking?

Tough call. I'm a fan of Interstate as well. The lack of dealers open on a Sunday makes it less attractive. I like the Walmart batteries for just this reason. Open all the time and they are very good about warren tee on the batteries. The batteries are pretty good too.

Definitely sounds like the battery. :( Unfortunately, you can't trust what they say about battery life any more- gone are the days where a battery might last you eight to ten years.
If you can wait, and don't have a pressing need to get the truck back on the road today, I would definitely try to check into that warranty on the interstate battery when your local supplier is open.

Put the battery from the wife's tundra in and nothing. That battery read 11.5 on the voltage when in the Tacoma. If it's not the battery what could it be?

A battery for a vehicle should read anywhere between 13.7 and 14.2

Starts and then dies with a different battery? Something electrical is what it sounds like now... Maybe the alternator...

That sounds like the alternator, then... Both batteries may very well be okay- you'll want to hook them to a charger, of course, and hopefully they will be fine.
