Why'd you buy your Sport 4x4 instead of OR ?

That's pretty much par for the course for the Internet. The less you give a fuck about it, the sooner you can enjoy the Internet.

    Not quite...

All 4WD Tacomas have Auto LSD (H2) and TRAC OFF (H4), and they are limited slip systems, which is great or better than no traction controls at all with the open diffs. They SLOW a spinning tire to transfer power to the traction tire, so you can better keep moving.

A-TRAC (MTS now) is more like lockers, and it is on the front and rear tires... Instead of just slowing a spinning tire, the tire is "locked" to the opposite tire on that axle so power is shared equally. Basically as a locking differential does, but it is automatic and only "locks" when needed, so steering control is not affected... as it is when using a locker.

I will agree with you that the actual wheel height is probably about the same but it is done by a 17" rim and shorter sidewall with a less aggressive and quieter tread vs the 16" rim with taller side wall and more aggressive tread. The Sport suits me better.

I live in the flat lands of northwest Ohio and will not be, what most people consider, off-roading.

The scoop makes it considerably faster on the highway also...LOL

I hate the black plastic fender flares. I know how easy it is to get wax on them and they will fade in this brutal Hawaiian sun. I like the new style scoop, color match fender flares and bigger wheels. As other people have stated, my off road driving will be going down to the beach or up to Mauna Kea. It will be my daily driver, so a smoother rides also interests me.

I drove both, and a lifted / big wheel one at the dealer.

I would have been just as happy with a Sport 4x4, really just wanted 4x4 as I'm never going to crawl. I'm in San Antonio, and there aren't any 4x4 DC Sport/OR on the lots, luckily found one this week and made a move. If there is any regret, the one I bought had the JBL package --- would have preferred a base configured truck and used that $3,600 on mods. But I'm happy to have one (tacoma) and can open the moon roof window cover when i'm going through the car wash yippee!

I actually prefer the plastic molding on the metallic grey, think it will look nice when I upgrade the wheels/tires.

But back to the point... I plan on upgrading the wheels and tires, no intention of keeping the stockers. In stock form the OR and Sport felt the same to me, significant difference with the larger wheels and tires... But its all the same regardless of Sport/OR.

Because I don't rock crawl and I generally don't need lockers and never have. I prefer the color match fenders and skewp over lockers and atrac button.

I've owned Rams and Jeeps and never needed lockers and that's not likely to change.

Here in North GA, most of the features of the OffRoad just aren't needed. Heck, a solid rear locker is almost all that's needed. I did want 4wd and would have been happy with the SR5 but, some of the touches of the TRD Sport were nice to have. So, ended up with a TRD Sport 4wd w/out the tech package. For a truck, the ride is great, fit and finish are excellent and, mechanically, mines been perfect for the first 1100 miles.

IF I lived out West in the sand and rocks, no doubt I'd have bought the OffRoad.

I could care less what anyone else likes.
I like the sport, purchased the sport, tweeked it the way I wanted and didn't ask anyone for their opinion.

Bottom line to each their own, I could never buy a 30k vehicle and plan to beat the snot out of it but water up to the cab or mud to the rockers or crawl through stiff to mark the crap out of it, that's me.

I would buy I beater for that.

Its a personnel decision I guess. I went with the OR myself. The sport hood scoop is non functional and is just for looks. If you like that then thats what you should buy. I personally like the additional off road goodies that the OR offers. I am sure I probably would never use them but they are nice to know that they are there if you wanted them and why not if its not that much difference in the price between the sport and the Or. Like it was said in lonesome dove its better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it.

I went with the sport over the off road because in Canada you can not get a offroad double cab. I think the offroad is the better deal but I wouldn't want anyone to half to sit in the back seat of a access cab.

I'm looking into buying a sport because I refuse to drive an automatic and the sport AC is one of a few manual options. The access cab is gives me the bed space needed for camping out in the Rockies or on extended fishing trips. The dcsb looks good but the functionality is key for me.

See another example, I would never personally drive a manual in a daily driver.
Hell my beer gets my crotch wet every time I shift a manual !

Tow package, K&N FIPK, K&N Cab filter, blacked out windows, powder-black TRD Sport wheels, TRD cat-back "Sport Exhaust", EBC "green pad" brakes with slotted rotors, GReddy front springs, new leaf-packs, ICON rear shocks,"Spec-D" black grille, blacked out fog-lights and headlights (all "Spec-D"), ScanGaugeII, old school Hurst "Dual Gate" shifter, black Tonneau bed cover, Mobil 1 since day one, Valentine1, idiot-behind-the-wheel-mod... *New frame and both rear leaf-spring packs as of October 2015* (weird..as mine wasn't rusty...)?! No noises, squeaks, problems whatsoever so far... ::knocks on wood:: PS) My wheels look cool only because they're coated in brake dust....
I bought a Sport mostly for the seats as I had just had back surgery and could barely walk...seriously. That and the bigger tires, the same color trim and the hood scoop which adds at *least* 10hp..LOL. Also I don't know if it was just me (I was on a lot of pain meds at the time..I barely remember buying it) but the "regular" Tacomas I did drive (I didn't get to drive any "Off Road" TRD's as he didn't have any on the lot) seemed kind of...."bouncy". I don't do *bouncy* (and yes I know any Tacoma's suspension could be tweeked). The Sport seemed to have more of a stiffer ride and handled better in case I get into another high speed chase. And the "Access Cab" is perfect as I hate most passengers. I replaced the grille with an aftermarket, put darker headlights and fog lights, tinted the windows darker and blacked out the wheels. Voila...it doesn't look like any other Sport around.

I wanted a TRD OR access cab. But access cabs were pretty scarce at the time. Only OR AC in vicinity was Monkey Shit Brown, so I got a white AC Sport. Been a year now and I'm real happy with it.

Flat land mud and snow, does what I need.

I'll be getting the 2017 sport, unless the TRD pro is released here.
Decided on the sport as soon as it was released here in canada.
Would rather the OR, but here they only offer the OR as access cab and I need the double cab, so OR is out, sport it is.
Just gonna put an ARB locker in instead.
