Form 4 finally came in for the can. Still waiting on the form 1 for the Zenith that went in at the same time. Can't wait to slap a stock on that sucker.

Going to drag the whole pile out tomorrow and heat 'em up.

Got a chance the other weekend to finally test my abilities at a little long rang shooting at my friend's property...well long range to me at least (the farthest I've been). Figured I'd share some pics.

    upload_2016-3-6_15-47-5.jpg

Had to get a pic of the gun and truck! I'm shooting a Mossberg MMR Tactical (chambered in 5.56 NATO) with M193. Upgrades to the weapon: Magpul adjustable stock, Magpul angled fore grip, cheap bipod (looking for an upgrade, suggestions welcomed), Vortex Strikefire II Red/Green dot, Vortex 3x Magnifier w/ flip mount, other minor exterior mods. My first AR and it has served me well for putting those pesky paper targets in their place.

    upload_2016-3-6_16-6-46.jpg

These long beds make for decent shooting platforms. A bed mat would help in the comfort department. Those channels in the bottom of the bed really dig into ribs and hips. Here's some POV pics...

    upload_2016-3-6_16-12-6.jpg
(I started at approx 97yds. Target centered in tire tracks on horizon. Not accurate measurement, paced off distance 3 times and listed yardages in this post are averages.)

    upload_2016-3-6_16-13-50.jpg
(The view through 3x magnification at approx 97yds. Note the red dot just above the target on the left.)

    upload_2016-3-6_16-20-44.jpg
(My view at approx 180yds. Two targets in the distance. 180yds was as far out as I could go at my friend's property to ensure a safe shooting direction and not be within 50yds of a public road...GA Law. I'd be interested in shooting further distances.)

    upload_2016-3-6_16-27-16.jpg
(Reverse view from behind the target, looking back towards my truck at 180yds. Follow the tire tracks and you'll be able to find the truck. Target stands were homemade for under $10 each and simple to build. Built within 30 mins. If anyone is interested, I'll provide the YouTube vid I used as reference.)

And for the results. I used one target for the 98yd session and the second target (shown below) for the 180yd session. 17 total rounds on this target (the 3 with double hash marks are my friend's): 4, 3-round groups and one, 5-round group. I walked to the target, checking shot placement after each group (no spotting sight for me). I only had one barely off the paper, but it was my first 3-round group at this distance and still trying to figure windage, which was variable and from my 7 o'clock (hence the miss right). For reference, each little square on the target is 1 inch. The red dot at this distance filled the large circle on the target.

    upload_2016-3-6_16-33-51.jpg

I took pictures after each grouping and took grouping measurements after I got home. Measurements were taken with a simple ruler to the closest 16th of an inch and from outside edge to inside edge of the furthest holes in each grouping. Largest grouping at this distance was 4 7/8 inches and smallest was 2 1/16 inches. Not to shabby for someone who has never shot further than his 25yd indoor range while using a budget AR and budget sights with only 3x magnification (humble brag).

Had a fun time and wanting to get out there again soon. My next upgrade will be the trigger on this AR. Factory has a standard Milspec, gritty, heavy trigger installed. Would love a crisp, two stage. I'm also looking for a better bipod...thinking Harris, but open for other suggestions.

    Happy and safe shooting!

Weekend's progress on the flintlock: pulled the tang, fit the barrel, reinstalled the tang, bent the tang, shaped the tang, inlet the tang, installed the underlugs, inlet the underlugs. Realized the barrelmaker didn't cut the rear sight lug, so I need to either tackle it or take it to a gunsmith buddy for a visit to the milling machine.

I replaced the spring/rod in my G20 with a two piece set up from http://www.sprinco.com . A little pricey but a quality piece and really helps to take the edge off the 10mm.
