New Ipod --- scared dash!

The dash got scratched tonight in my install of the SPEC ipod interface!!!!

I am so bummed she is not even 2 weeks old and now the cheap ass dash has a scratch!

any tips on how to get it out?

 

It depends on which part of the dash it is, and how deep the scratch is...BUT I've heard that warming the dash with a hair dryer/heat gun and smoothing the scratch over with your thumb works. I haven't seen it done on the black portion of the dash next to the windshield, but on all of the other plastic around the cab such as the door panels it seems to work well.

 

Reviving a dead thread..... I scratch the grey part of my dash under the a/c control panel with the back of my factory stereo while putting in a iPod adapter. Any successful scratch removal stories?

I believe OP meant scarred, not scared dash.... I hope.

 

I once did the hair dryer trick on my tundra's glove box. It did work & added some "fill" (crayola color matched crayon ) very gingerly heating the area, working the spot with some gloves on and teeny bit of crayon afterwards. It took the rough sharp edges off & blended well. That was my shot at fixing the plastic. There might be some special billy mays type plastic fill I do not know of that is better than crayola. good luck.

Would hate to see your busted ass Tacoma...with everything damaged is not repaired.

 

I did the same thing. I used a lighter to turn the white parts back to grey. Don't go too crazy or it will make that part very shiny. They form that with heat, that worked really good for me. The scratches are still there but the light has to be just perfect to see them

 

yea my dash has a spot where the black rubberish material is peeling off from my gps resting/rubbing on it a little bit. pretty pissed how easily this happened considering i had my gps in my old blazer for 3 years with absolutely no damage to the dash
