I know this is a transport hook and I should not use to be recovered. It's on the passenger side.

And then I have this thing on the driver side. I was expecting to have a hook on my 2009 Pre Runner. Can I attach a D-Ring and use it as a recovery point? It is welded to the frame. or do i need to buy something else?

Here is a picture of my dog sleeping and me sharing a beer with my spare tire.

The one welded to the frame is just a transport tie down point, not to be used for recovery.

The one on the left is a bolted on torque box used for winching up on a flatbed since the Tacoma doesn't have them built in the frame, the drivers is for transport. A few vendors make an aftermarket mount to screw a shakle too. Do not use either one as a recovery point

10 bucks - have used it to free a couple of autos this winter, stuck in the snow. Not sure I would lift my truck up by the hook, but it has sure been adequate to do what I wanted it to do, and is rated for 10K. If I ever get stuck, (and don't need a crane to lift me out) I'm sure it will stand up to enough of a "tug" to get me free.

One bolt holding the hook to the L bracket? God I hope to never need to pull or be pulled by you.

Didn't look close enough. Still an odd setup, creative but odd.

$10 plus welding if you don't want the hook pointing up or down.

The combination of parts, not the angle of the dangle. The trd one is that way too

Either of the two points you have pics of have worked fine for me on multiple occasions. I just filed out the one on the passenger side so a shackle will fit through (pics below). I've also looped a chain through the driver side point. No troubles there either. I'd say save your money.

I personally like more beef than that small flange to pull against.

Gotcha - just couldn't see spending more dough than necessary to get a recovery point in front - welding for mine - N/C - have wire feed in garage -
    cheap mod that works.

That small flange has held up without issue so I don't see a need to replace it. But I agree, beef is great.
