DIY - How to Install a ToyTec Diff Drop (Pics)

Well... have a look at the skid plate that guy made. There were two cube-like protrusions that likely caught the rock and pushed everything into the engine casing. Skids should be nice and smooth to glide over rocks, not catch on them.

That's the only bad thing I've ever read about the drop. I put one in, can't hurt really. My kit from Toytec came with spacers to drop the factory skids anyway.

 

What's the round spacer with three holes for that I got in my diff drop kit?

How in the world did you get the diff support bolts loose? I couldn't get them off for the life of me. Even tried using a breaker bar. Feels like I'm about to break the bolt in half.

 

this won't work with aftermarket skids huh?

 

My Rigid impact wrench had to work at them a few seconds but they came right off.
I just lifted my 2016 Tacoma and had the shuttering from 0-15 mph. I dropped the differential and no change at all. Any more thoughts?

 

Do some research on a carrier bearing drop and axle shims.

 

I just did this install today took me about an hour, many people say it doesn't help but I measured the angle on my cvs before and after, and the kit knocked 3 degrees out of angle so for me it helps and very limited ground clearance loss

 

They say it's not worth it bc the diff now looses lubrication on the back side and it can damage it. CV boots like 50 bucks a new front diff 2k?

 

I find that a bit hard to believe, the inside of that diff when that ring spins turn into basically a dishwasher inside there. Can't imagine a lubrication issue at all in there.

 

well after a couple of days with diff drop my cv noise came back, and I went ahead and installed eastcoast gear supply clamshell bushing and the was the proper fix took away all noise and vibration. I think ill leave diff drop on to keep cv angle better

 

Since lifting my truck I have been experiencing not only vibrations from the front but also coming from the rear diff as well as a noise. Will this diff drop kit help with the rear noise and vibrations?

Too mine off,a total waste of time and money,as the drop does nothing at all for the truck and it only tilts the diff,it does not drop anything.

What's your deal? I've seen you in three different diff drop threads in the past 24 hours. Care to share your personal experience on why they're so bad?

 

Who said they were bad,I said they do little too nothing too help the cv axle angles,so why waste your money.

 

Fair enough. I just assumed that you had a poor experience with them. It costs $31+shipping from wheelers offroad, so the cost is low. If it helps a little bit, $31 is worth it.
