so its been below freezing here in oregon the last few days. And my tire pressure light came on. I understand that cold weather makes the pressure drop in the tires. Well my light came on and i checked them all including the spare and there all right where they normally are. Soooo.. im stuck on what may be causing the light to stay on. I read the manual and my light isn't doing what the manual states..It stays on, without flashing at all. So any help on this i would gladly appreciate it.

I think if you hold the TPMS button under your steering wheel, it will reset them and 'assume normal tire pressure' as what you have at the moment. I know thats what the Les Schwab guys did for me with my 33's since they run at a different pressure. You might want to call them, I'm sure they could tell you exactly how it's done, I'm not positive.

my light came on last week with the drop in temp here. i'm sure my tire pressure is fine though. i'm going to reset the freaking light tomorrow. what you do is, turn your key to the on position, then press and hold the reset button under your steering wheel and hold it until the light flashes three times. hope that helps. its supposed to shut off. do this assuming all your tires are at the correct psi levels.

that was gonna be my next suggestion, same general process as the 'maint req'd' light. I just wasn't sure the first time around.

well the manual says to reset it after a tire rotation, after tire or wheel replacement; when the inflation pressure is changed. or when replacing the ecu or when replacing the air pressure sensors. however, i want to know if resetting it can cause other issues, if none of the above?

looks like it will if you don't first adjust the correct psi on all four tires, including your spare. it says the light might come on when your psi levels are normal. or it wont come on at all, if your psi levels are low, if you dont adjust the correct psi levels. feaking light causes more issues than i want to see in a light. it looks like someones ass is mooning you... lol

I'm having the same issue with the cold temps. In the morning the light stays on for my entire drive in to work. As the temps rise slightly during the day the light goes off on the drive home. It can't be pressure because I have checked all tires in the freezing cold. What a big PITA it is to check the pressure on the spare in freezing cold weather! I'm going to have to back the ass end into the garage and drop that down and flip it soon. Just have to heat up the garage a little first. BRRRRR

yes one of toyota's murphy law is to have the spare trigger during the wintery-est weather. Mine is flipped now.

I'm in Oregon too and having the same problem. I set the tires to the same pressure and held the reset button until it flashed. The light came right back on. It must be the cold snap we're have out here.

All 5 tires have to be close in tire pressure. I had this problem last year, because I had increased the pressure in the road tires, but not the spare. When it got cold the spare tire turned on the light. I just added some air to the spare and the light went out after a few minutes. I've rotated my tires twice and have changed air pressures slightly and have never used the reset button. This week in Reno it is very cold and my light has not come on. At least not yet.

Edit. I just re-read your post and I noticed you checked the spare. If after it warms back up and your light doesn't go out, you may have a bad sensor in one of the tires. Just a thought.

I guess I'll check the spare. I need to anyway since I'll be driving to Vegas in a couple of weeks. At least it won't be this cold there (we're up to 24*).

Don't ya just love the TPMS crap? I've seen this happen with my truck when the temperature gets cold. I think what happens is when you drive around the tires heat up and cause the pressure to be higher than the spare which stays cold under the truck.

Yea, I hate tpms. I think in 2009 Toyota took the sensor out of the spare to avoid this problem. I guess too many people are too lazy to use an air pressure guage so the Govt. had to pass a law that all light duty vehicles have tpms.

I wonder if Toyota would be willing and able to reprogram my 07 to only have 4 sensors...get rid of the one in the spare. Anyone tried this?

Where is the transmitter at? I always thought it to be in the valve stem and that if you took it out and installed a standard valve stem then it just would not transmit anymore. But I guess if the receiver is programmed to receive five values then that would not work.

When you get new wheels do they use your existing valve stems or do you have to buy new TPMS? Surely the transmitter is not part wheel itself?
