Too bad you were not closer, have one posted right now for sale on here that takes up less space than others, but is extremely tough and safe. I highly recommend the Diono Radian. Steel frame and doesn't chew up all the space in the back seat. Pricier, but worth it. Rear facing from 5lbs on.

My opinion is to take your truck to the store and test fit the seats before buying. We have a store called bye bye baby that's like a best buy for baby stuff. We used a britax rear facing seat for the first 2 years, and now a front facing recaro. Modern seats nowadays are HUGE no matter which one you pick.

I would also advise against getting used as these seats have a 5 or so year shelf life and you have no idea if the seat had been in an accident and compromised.

Anyways I hope you are still a ways from the mid popping out, as it seems you have a ton of research to get started on. Good luck and have fun!

Ditto on buying new! Make sure to check the expiration date on the unit u plan to buy as well. I've seen some new ones that were three years old in the name brand stores.

I don't have kids, but your local police department will have a program where they will cover going over the basic safety and installation of car seats at their station. Contact them....I believe it's 100% free. They may also have info on seat safety ratings...but not sure.

    Congrats!

That's no lie, OP needs to get his priorities straight.

He's in CA and from what I recall they are pretty diligent on car seat expectations and inspections. A buddy had bought a used graco (2 year old car seat at the time) and they wouldn't let him leave the hospital with his newborn in that seat. His dad had to go get a new seat and bring it to them. IIRC it was either Marin or Sonoma county too.

@8a LTD do your research on car seats and find a highly rated one. You're going to come here and do your research and spend money on the truck. Take that same effort and apply it to your child's safety.

I've got two in my truck. One is front facing behind the passenger's seat, and the second is rear facing in the center location. The RXT's are not as wide as a some of the other restraints. I still have access to the smaller storage areas behind and underneath the driver's side rear seat. This may not be true for 3rd gen trucks, but in my 2nd gen installation of a child restraint in the center location requires the use of the seatbelt system. LATCH cannot be used in the center location per the Tacoma manual (don't take my word for it, double check the manual just to be sure)

    None... sigh
Some of the car seats and strollers cost as much as a set of ATs now.

Looks like the backseat of my wife's Forester for the grandkids.

Nothing wrong with Graco. And I like the name idea, gonna do it tomorrow.

I'm in Sonoma, you're right, we can't leave if we don't have the proper seat.

Your birthing hospital should have a car seat class. I recommend it. You learn a lot more than you think.

I had CHP install my seat, noted how tight it was, then reinstalled it when it was time. I used a Britax B-Agile system which has a cradle for your car, then the rear facing seat that can be removed and put on a stroller. It's pretty versatile, as I got multiple cradles for each of our cars, and just used one seat. Of course, when your baby grows out of that, you'll need a front facing seat, then a booster down the road. Between strollers and car seats, we've probably spent a good $2,000.

Buy buy baby. Looks like the closest one to you is in pleasant hill.

Fair warning tho. Taking a pregnant woman there would be like a kid in a candy store!

FWIW, I hate the removable seat. And the whole idea of strollers, etc.

We're baby carrier, and ride on the shoulders kinda folks.

When my kids were born, both hospitals they were born at required car seats/carriers, and a nurse to escort us and inspect our vehicle to make sure the carrier was installed correctly.

I think we used Graco from BJs Wholesale club, or Costco.

You can buy used, but you have to know if the seat was in an accident, or if it had expired. I think most car seats/carriers now use LATCH, which is a direct connection to the seat frame.

Once you get the seat, practice installing it, removing it, and installing it again. I found that if I put my knee into the seat I could really tighten the base down by compressing the seats.

Congratulations on the new addition! The fun is just beginning!
