OK! I voted. They WERE the best ever. Haven't touched the stuff in over twenty years. Someone mentioned prohibition, from which we (as a nation) apparently learned nothing whatsoever. Legalize it, tax the hell out of it, save money on enforcement, let the pharmaceutical companies investigate other uses, save money on prisons, reduce smuggling, save money on courts......The price will still be less, and the profits won't be going to criminals but to companies that my 401k is probably invested in. Hmmm, it just keeps getting better:)

ND - You're right about the driving, but driving while impaired in any way is bad. Probably worse to drive when you think doing 80 on city streets is about right, than thinking you're going too fast cuz you're doing 35.

Damn! this light has been red forever. I must be so wasted I sat through a complete cycle. Wonder why everyone isn't honking their horn at me?

They should never legalize it. The gov't would make too much money.

Try that same test, but behind the wheel. Which would you feel safer on the road with??

I dont recomend drinking and driving, but i have done it on multiple occasions ( i know i'm an idiot). But i can say this.... i can drink and drive, not well but i can do it. The world is dizzy but i am aware enough to react. However, when i smoke, i completely lose it. i once stood in my friends kitchen playing with his refrigerator. i would press the button till water came out on the floor then giggle. my friend came in yelling at me asking what the hell i was doing and i looked at him and said "you're refrigerator is pissing on me" giggleing like a girl the whole time. Now some people may be different (i think i'm ultra sensitive to it) but i know if i tried to drive i would immediately plow into something in the first minute (assuming i could figure out how to work the car)

I agree, driving under the influence is bad no matter what it is, but in my opinion, your facilities are affected much more by weed than booze.

Someone made the comment that the gov. would make too much money off of it.... i dont have a problem with that at all. i dont care that the gov makes money of booze or tabaco. The more money the gov makes the better. the government making money is never a bad thing, especially if it means lightening the load on tax payers.

oh and themaster, i have no problem with pills no matter where they are from :)

I support the legalization of marijuana. If we did we could tax it, which would boost our economy, save us money (housing of the convicted), and of course people could use it for medicinal purposes.

John Galt is a fictional character in Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged. Although he is absent from much of the text, he is the subject of the novel's often repeated question, "Who is John Galt?", and the quest to discover the answer.
As the plot unfolds, Galt is acknowledged to be a creator and inventor who embodies the power of the individual capitalist. He serves as an idealistic counterpoint to the social and economic structure depicted in the novel. The depiction portrays a society based on oppressive bureaucratic functionaries and a culture that embraces the stifling mediocrity and egalitarianism of socialistic idealism. In this popular mass ideology, the industrialists of America were a metaphorical Atlas of Greek mythology, holding up the world, whom Galt convinces to "shrug," by refusing to lend their productive genius to the regime any longer.

I'm curious as to whether you feel the same, now that you smoke somewhat regularly, about driving under the influence of weed as opposed to under the influence of booze? Has your opinion changed at all?

I think locking someone up for a small amount is a waste of resources that could be used elsewhere. In fact the DA's office is starting to refuse prosecution if the person has no major prior arrests and gets locked up for a few small bags.

That I think is the beginning of decriminalization. It'll take a while but it'll get there eventually.

just make it legal so you can pick it up at a pharmacy and it will put the dealers out of buisness, and the pharmacys could sell it for cheaper and the economy will go up. no more chasing, arresting, and spending money on keeping dealers in jail.

    not that hard!

no, not at all. now that i smoke regularly i can handle myself much better, but i still have those times when someone will say something to me and i just sit there. i'm pretty functional now but nowhere near able to drive a car. i had to back down my driveway a few weeks ago and i think it took me about 5 minutes. i'd check each mirror 3 times, back up 3 feet, forget my surroundings, and had to check all the mirrors again. it was pretty retarded. but i am a full fledged weed advocate. i have some legitimate sleep problem and have ambian, valium, and ativan and i hate all of them. i wake up in a grog and tehy all severely affect my short term memory. i smoke weed before bed and i'm out like a light. i wake up feeling fine and my memory is only affected for the time i'm high, whereas ambien will mess with me for an entire day afterwards. even if i didn't have sleep issues i'd still smoke because i'm much less irritable and relaxed. its just all around good stuff :D

you my stupid canadian friend, are correct for once. just look at all the media saturation. family guy did the legalize pot thing. watch entourage. they all smoke all the time. movies, tv, everything is geared towards making it "not a big deal". the more common it is in media the more people are gonna relax about it and realize that the "freak outs" you seen in teh 1950's propaganda films (girls jumping out of windows) dont really happen. it will take a few years but it will be legal well within my lifetime.... i hope

what gets me is your statement is PROVEN but people still dont want to do anything about it. look at nevada, legalized prostitution is a huge benefit for everyone involved. it is taxed, so the gov makes money. less sexually transmitted diseases since the girls legally have to be tested regularly. no pimp violence since all the girls work for legitimate (although sometimes shady) business men in well lit safe environments. the reason i bring up prostitution is because paying for sex is something i would never do, but i think it should be legal. so even if you dont smoke pot, the argument is still a good one for legalization. make something legal and the criminal element mysteriously vanishes

good points. i'd rather see them decriminalize it and make penalties for driving under the influence (of anything, including weed) extremely harsh. like, go to jail or lose your license for 10 years for first offense kind of harsh. 2nd offense should be permmanant loss of license and a good long stretch in prison

I don't have time at the moment to write up a debate, but simply put, LEGALIZE THE SHIT ALREADY. It is absolutely absurd that alcohol could be considered a legal drug while marijuana is classified as a schedule I drug.

FWIW I have not smoked pot in quite some time, but that has its reasons. It still wont stop me from being a huge advocate of the legalization of marijuana. If you are in to politics, or even just an advocate, get off your ass and pick up a pen and paper or get on the horn. Write/call someone who can actually make a difference, don't just bitch to your friends about how you wish it was legal.

    So here is my take:

I've been smoking Cali :rasta: for the past 4 years or so.. On and off, at moments it became a habit but then i would just stop.

Legalizatin of Marijuana has it's Positives and negatives. I do feel that there are more positives to legalizing it than there is negatives. Yes, the govt will make lots of money off of taxing it, less prisoners and all that good financial hoopla. Marijuana is a mood altering substance just like alcohol. Somebody stated that putting 2 guys in a room with alcohol will result in a fight, 2 guys in a room with a joint and they'll be best buds (no pun intended). I agree, Most people mellow out with Marijuana as opposed to Alcohol. The bad thing about Marijuana is that it makes people moody. It could make someone already vulnerable to depression, depressed. I noticed that after i started smoking (maybe it's just a coincidence) i became less patient and more moody. That of course is when i'm not high. When i've smoked, i really don't give a rats ass what's going on.

I am not proud of this whatsoever!! I've driven after drinking and also after smoking, i'm sure i've driven after drinking and smoking at the same time. When a person does not smoke often, or is not used to it, their driving ability will be extremely impaired. I have driven high and i can honestly say i drive better then when i'm sober. I'm really concentrated on the road and don't get distracted, i drive much closer to the speed limit, leave more space between cars. I'm sure my response time is impaired but i drive sane when i've smoked marijuana and insane when i'm sober. But i've been smoking Chronic for years and can control myself 10000 times better then before.

I vote to legalize it, tax it but enforce strict penalties for driving while intoxicated (any drug).

So it sounds like we're going to be having a So Cal Meet & Smoke. Who's organizing it? haha:D

Not condoning driving under the influence but i think your opinion on driving while under the influence of marijuana is a bit extreme.
But in any case i completely agree with your stance on decriminalization; but not your opinion on the punishment side of things. If anything give me a ticket for 100$ for having a dime bag on me. I as well as most anyone i know an will ask agree with this. People should not get sucked into the revolving door that is the legal system because of a relatively benign and harmless plant. Being young many of you may take my opinion worth a grain of salt but thankfully because of my age i will hopefully see the end of the drug war era.
You take out the criminal aspect you take out the crime or at least a large portion of it. Let your local pot smoker support your government and local industry, not someone living in canada, mexico or any number of places.
Similar to nd my sister had sleep and anxiety problems and developed a severe addiction to drugs like ambien and other legally prescribed medicines and is now in rehab :(. She also smoked pot and when she was home and could smoke she never took those medications. It was off at boarding school and college where she never had the chance to smoke and developed the addiction.
People need to realize that many of the legal pharmaceuticals that we put in our body are much more dangerous than marijuana with much more dire possible side effects. The worst side effect from pot is the the munchies and being sleepy. If used through a vaporizer the negative side effects are almost nil. Hopefully our government will come to realize these things for a more "enlightened" approach to our drug policy. Thank god we're at least moving in the right direction.

    Sam
