OK, I got this truck for the ease of hauling stuff. My homebrew rig, lumber, appliances, furniture and whatnot.

I originally was not thinking of getting a cap at all.

On the other hand, I can see the advantage of having one, you can keep oft used gear safe and covered.

What happens when you need to haul lumber or something?

Can you just open the gate and have it hanging out, no issues?

How about an appliance that is too tall? How feasible is it for one person to remove/reattach the cap?

As it is, I dont really have garage space for my taco. 1 bay is my workshop, lawn tools, storage area (yeah, I need to decrapify, and the other has my RX-7. At this point I would be hard pressed to even store the cap in there. Which leads to my thoughts about the need for a backyard storage shed...

@OZ-T for the lumber question and his pics

One person CANNOT remove the cap alone unless you have a hoist system, then yes. Tried removing a hard shell tonneau by myself before and it did not go well.

Yeah, that is what I was thinking when I mentioned the garage (hoist system)

Maybe the answer (if I dont need a full cap), is a cover instead...

    Yeah...

Maybe the answer is a good cover system that can be removed, folded up as needed. I am really liking the ammo cans in the bed concept. With something like these I can just mount the bases, then remove the cans if needed.

    (From Sportsmans Guide)

that would get me hidden (and mostly secure) storage and I could quickly convert if needing to haul big stuff.
