Transmission Flushing

    What is the recommended Change interval on an Automatic transmission in a 2gen (06) tacoma.

    I have a 2wd w/86k driven on it. I am not the original owner and ASSUME that its never been changed.

    I checked the ATF recently and it looks fine, but want to know whats recommended. The manual says nothing of the sort in terms of transmission. And the dealer said he might check it if the cars around 65k and may or may not recommend changing (little did he know i have surpassed this milestone). But failed to comment on what Toyota Actually recommends on 2 generation tacomas.

    How did you check it?

    They are not shceduled for maintenance until 100k miles. They designed to be sealed units.

    I checked it with the Transmission dip stick.

    What do you mean by "sealed unit" ???

    if the fluid is a nice red, then you should be fine. With 86k miles, it cant hurt to change it though.

    Yeah 5lug, Thought all 2wd Tacomas were 5lug sorry.

    Does that make a diff, in the recommended change intravel? IE not 100k

    Pre-runners (2wd with 4wd suspension) are 6 lugs. That's ok. I thought all second gen tranny's were sealed. Apparently not. :eek:

    Yeah...Check the fluid and see what it looks like..If there is any "Brown" tint to it, change it.

    As was said, check the color and also smell it. If it smells burnt, change it.
