Has anyone else experienced this? Not the shifting, that's fine. It is the engine accelerating, it seems to do it intermittently from 1100-3000 and all in between. Maybe a not so good fuel map, the vvt doesn't kick in till 3500-4000, so it's not that...

I've noticed this on my 6spd manual, it's real easy to tell with that because it's linear until I shift. There are some major surges in that RPM range. Some say they like it as it feels like a powerband, but I really don't. I really do wish it felt smoother through the rev range. My 2012 DCLB didn't have this, my '13 FJ didn't have this issue either. I'm hoping down the road they'll find some solutions to smooth everything out.

Maybe it's the converter locking up? Mine will lock up at low rpms and jerk under low load. Wouldn't think it would do it higher in the rpm band as what you're experiencing though.

Yea, I have a V6 MT, and I've commented on it a few other threads. It's not real bad, but there is slight surging that happens, in particular partial throttle (1/4-1/2) around 2500 rpm. I find it most noticeable in 6th on the highway around 70mph, but from time to time I notice it in 3rd, 4th, and slightly so in the lower gears. Most people have attributed it to the injection system. It's just one of those things that I think isn't real bad, but it's still noticeable and once you get used to the truck it becomes easier to pick up on. I was going to mention it when I take it in for the 5000 mile service, but I'm not real concerned about it.

Glad I found this thread. This is what mine is doing and it's super annoying. I and others have been thinking it's the torque converter shudder and locking and unlocking but if it's doing it on the manual tranny too then it could be the fuel system too.

I took mine in and the dealer said it was the injectors switching between direct and port injection.

I think this is something toyota needs to address and fix. It's embarrassing to have people be ideal in my brand new truck that shuddes.

I notice it when you punch the accelerator from 20 MPH , it takes a second or 2 to get it to go and then it lurches forward. Real annoying. Not smooth at all!

I attributed it to the fuel injection. I'm hopeful they'll sort this out at some point and offer a remap.

I noticed this very thing on a test drive. In a 6 speed in second gear around 2300-2500 rpm. It makes sense if it's the ecu switching fueling cycles but as everyone else is saying, definitely needs to be smoothed out

It was my impression that the port injectors were only used when the direct's were in their self cleaning cycle?

Does anyone have any literature explaining how this motor works and when the motor is switching injectors?
