I hear ya, I fight the truck limo look too. Its a freakin long ass truck like that. I wish I could keep the access cab forever but its not going to be practical in a few years for me. I am still totally on the fence between DCLB or DCSB for my next truck

You are correct but it allows you to haul a lot more stuff Also when you remove those cheap aZZ OEM tires and replace them with real AT tires in addition to a step bar it really changes the whole look of the truck Go long bed

No, offgassing is the same quantity. The long bed just gets longer bursts but less often. Short bed just gets you quicker bursts more often..... Same overall volume.

I like the shortbeds so I went with shortbed I wasn't a fan of the long beds where they added that extra foot it doesn't look right to me but I was also a jeep fan so I prefer short

I have owned a 2011 generation 2 TRD OR DC/SB {short box} that I drove for 5yrs There was two things that bothered me. The first being I would often enough 4 or 5 more times a year wish that I had the long bed when hauling a couple of eight foot long 4x4 posts for a fence or a full size sheet of plywood or any number of other things. The second was that it did not have heated mirrors. In February I traded my 2011 TRD OR DC/SB for a 2016 TRD OR DC/LB. My impressions driving were like night and day. The long bed tracked so much better going down the road much easier to hold a line on the road much less driving effort to hold your line. To me it is a more stable platform needing less driver effort. I can still drive to the end of my block and do a u-turn at the corner. So the turning radius is not bad. The 2016 tacomas have a longer nose on them then the 2nd generation trucks had , giving the long bed a more balanced look to me. With the back up camera on the 7inch screen backing up is not a problem at all. I also got the premium tech package with the back up assist sonar that my wife really loves and she has no problems driving this around town and parking it. If you can part with the extra $ I would recommend the added cost of the tech sunroof ect package. And what I liked was the new Tacomas come with heated mirrors I live in north east Washington state and the Canadian wind can easily get temps down below zero. I had regrets with a short box I doubt that I will have near as many with a long bed. But in the end only you can decide what is best for yourself you really need to go to at least one dealer and drive both set ups enough so that you know in your heart which box you prefer for the money these things cost you want to be happy with your new truck and be happy with the decision that you make.

    Nothing worthy
After my first real haul of some crap I don't know how a short bed gets anything done...
Would've had a couple trips to the dump instead of one.

Let's put this in a simple math equation:

    LB > SB

Now that this is clear you can close the thread

    And everyone said..... :amen:

Good points... However, if my observations were the same as yours I would have kept my '12 TRD Tundra (access cab). Not only did it ride better than the Tacoma but the regular bed was as long as the LB Tacoma, turned in a short radius, was rarely effected by the wind, had all the amenities you have to upscale a Tacoma to get such as power sliding rear window, Homelink, power drivers seat, heated mirrors, tilting headlights for towing (just to name a few), had as much room in the back as the DC, and actually cost about the same as my new Tacoma. But, the downside for me was (1) it was hard to get into the garage, (2) had the 4.6L V8...not that bad, and (3) the killer...hit a mail box and f***** up the side and didn't want to get it fixed. But, before I am jumped on, I must say I do REALLY LIKE my new Tacoma SR5 V6 DCSB. Finally, I personally LIKE THE LOOK OF BOTH VERSIONS of the bed but went with the SB as I could get that one quicker.

I so damn anal I wouldn't have put that in my bed anyway. I would just call my son and have him haul it off in his Z71. He owns a farm and his truck looked like s*** 5 minutes after he bought it. Like he said, "dad...it's a truck! Use the damn thing as it was made to do." He cleans his truck when he can no longer see out of the windows...drives me nuts!

    Same here.....

I can never remember thinking I wanted less room since owning the longbed, I always wished the bed was a little bigger when I had the shortbed.

I wanted a long bed, but they don't offer an OR MT with one ... so I went with the only MT equipped OR offered, DCSB :/ ... whatever, the rare occasion I might need a larger bed I can just rent a trailer for $25 anyways.

The SB is a good compromise for people moving from SUV's or even cars. Four full doors and a generous cargo space. The DCLB is ideal for those who haul more and those who like me, have a topper and occasionally sleep in the back. I think the DCLB looks better proportioned. The DCSB looks odd since there are no body lines between rear wheel well and cab. The DCLB flows much better.

get the long bed. otherwise you will be regretting it with a short bed.

4Runner doesn't offer a manual transmission, but it was the other vehicle I was seriously considering. Also, the one I wanted would have been ~$6k more. The SB I ended up with works fine for my needs, but I agree it is nicer to have the long bed if possible. I wish they would offer DCLB OR MT, but they don't. It was a higher priority to have the MT over the LB for me, so that was that. After seeing all the complaints about the auto, I don't regret my decision. In the end it really just comes down to personal needs/wants. We all have our own priorities that dictate the options we choose.

I had the same dilemma. But in the end, it all boiled down to a simple thing...Do you buy a truck for it cab, looks or bed payload??
I decided payload so I got the long.

Doesn't matter which bed length you go with. You will need a trailer for bigger loads anyway.

And if you are complaining that the DCLB is too difficult to drive around then you shouldn't have a drivers license.
