Bird Droppings! How do you get rid of the stains/outlines!?

damn, first full day of owning the truck and already got blessed! two drops of bird droppings on the hood and two on the top ... wiped off easy but you can see at an angle the outline of the bird droppings!!!! is there a fast and safe way to remove the outlines? i tried to wax it out but not really working. ive got the Xzilon treatment from the dealer too?!!?!! any help ... thanks

 

Get some ScratchX 2.0 and rub it out with a microfiber towel.

 

Quit looking at your truck from that angle.

 

You should take a dump on the hood to offset the bird shit. But really, detail spray.

 

Mcguiars (spelling?) step one paint cleaner in a maroon bottle. Gets every thing out except dents!

 

If I have bird droppings on my truck I use a microfiber towell with hot water to get it off. Keep your truck waxed. It will help prevent that crap from sticking.

 

Agreed. The Meguires detail spray works like a champ.

Just don't let it stew for too long before you clean it off.

Bird poop etches the paint. Basically, it leaves its imprint on the clear coat. Once it is washed away, you see the damage on the clear coat. Hence the outline. Just like a scratch, you will need to remove some clear coat in that area to remove the outline. ScrtachX 2.0 is the best, easiest to find product that will work. Deep Crystal Paint cleaner was a good product, it is disco'ed now so it might be hard to find. The paint cleaner was more of a last step product before you wax. It was designed to give a 'clean slate' so to speak before wax is applied.

Get some ScratchX 2.0 and a pack of the orange microfibers at target. Keep those in your truck. Never know when you need a mark taken out. FYI, have some wax handy after you use the polish as the polish will take away any protection you have on you paint.

 

Bird poop is acidic, so it basically eats paint. The depth of the etch will determine whether or not its removable, or should I say, at what cost.

I have bird poop outlines on my hood (from the previous owner) and they will not come out; they are too deep.

Scratch-X is an OK product, but contains fillers and uses diminishing abrasives. Use a high-quality micro-abrasive polish, like the Meguiar's M105/M205 combo. Unfortunately, they're not available in small amounts.

Follow up with wax to protect the spot.

Don't go too crazy trying to get rid of the etching. If it's deep, you may end up having to take too much clearcoat off to get rid of them and you'll end up with a bigger problems.

Prevention is the best medicine. Keep your paint well-waxed, and keep a Quick Detailer and microfiber in your truck and as soon as you see the 'offense', wipe it off. Don't worry about scratches at that point...better to put mild scratches in that can be easily buffed out later than to leave acid on your paint.

Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Detailer is a good off the shelf product. CSI also makes a good Detailer, but I am out of stock on that right now.

yup, im taking all the advice ... already stocked microfiber towels, bottle water with soap mixed into it already, wax, polish clothes, ScratchX 2.0, sponge in my cargo compartments for that quick wipe off if i see any bird droppings ...

If that does'nt work, I use a product made by 3m called "finesse it". Its a finishing compound used in the final stage of rubbing out paint. Comes in a plain white bottle with a black and white label. Hard to find and very expensive, but most body shop supply stores carry it and it works well with an orbital, rotarybuffer, or by hand. It removes swirls and any blemishes left by heavier rubbing compounds or bad technique.
