difference between TRD SPORT and TRD OFF-ROAD?

you'd think i could get this info off the Toyota website, but at the moment, the "build your Tacoma" won't allow double cab and long-bed option.

i'd like the double cab & long bed, and the dealer i am speaking with online says i can get that with the TRD Sport, but not TRD off-road.

i'd like the 4x4. i've seen double-cab, long bed, & 4x4 mudflaps around SoCal so i know they exist. i don't plan to do any off-roading, what will i be missing?

please help

 

you'll be missing a chrome rear bumper and chrome front grille and rear locker. sport is better IMO.

same seats. Locker is worth it. I would never pay that much for color keyed bumpers and a non-functional hood scoop.

 

Didn't notice you said no offroading. You are probably better off with a sport, unless you like chrome a lot.

 

The Sport doesn't come with skid plates or the rear locker. But it does have the limited slip rear end, and 17 inch wheels verse the Off Road 16's. If you dont go off road then you really dont need the Off Road. And even the sport does well enough for my rare off road outings. Here is my db cab long bed sport.

 

Hood scoop is for looks just like the fancy wheels people pay for... why not a scoop if you like it? I know, the wheels are functional but they get rid of stock rims and pay for fancy ones just for looks. People buy alot of things that are "non-functional" just for the looks.

 

Dealer is correct. Toyota does not make a TRD Off Road in a long bed.
the Long bed TRD Sport comes in 4X4 or prerunner (2X4)

bandit: the thead you provided talks mostly about off-roading. i guess i am more concerned about the appearance.

MAX your truck is awesome, i want the step bars and bull bar just like you. it's silver so i can't tell in the photo if that's a chrome rear bumper.

i definitely want the chrome rear bumper, when you say i am "missing" the chrome bumper does that mean if i want 4x4?

is this correct:

TRD sport = 2wd, chrome bumper, 17", no skid plates, black grille, hood scoop

TRD off road = 4wd, painted bumper, 16", skid plates, chrome grille, no hood scoop

Yes my rear bumpers is painted. I think that I like the body colored bumpers over the chrome but thats just my opinion.

yep, i agree the painted bumper looks nicer. but my biggest pet peeve with autos is that the bumpers get damaged too easily.

schmucks here don't know how to park, so they literally bump into you and then inch back. those little bumps add up in time.

i'd be even happier if the tacoma came with a chrome FRONT bumper, it's for that reason i considered the Fronteir, but overall i think the tacoma is a much nicer looking truck.

ABOUT THE INTERIOR:

is there a difference between SPORT and OFF ROAD? or all all TRD interior trims the same?

TRD Sport = Bad

TRD OffRoad = Good

IMO, limited slip is better for on road use and locker is better for off road. Basically, your choice boils down to what you are using your truck for. I personally prefer the look of the Sport model, but if I did a lot of off roading, I would get the TRD Off Road package.

 

thanks everybody, i'm sold on the OFF-ROAD package based on the rear chrome bumper alone.
