Ditch the trailer, and put it in the truck. You will get such better MPG's easier on braking, cheaper tolls, trailer tires at speed, and not need to worry about trailer bearings and such.

I have several trailers for various uses, and on a distance haul, if the load can go in the bed I will always go that route.

To everyone talking about MPG's, Wind resistance, brakeing, etc. the trailer in question here is a big box store 5x8, not an enclosed. probably only weighs a thousand pounds if that. I know it will take a little more to stop and go, but is it really that much more?

I agree, if you can run with it in the bed well worth it. The trailer has more negatives than positives.

Yes. How do you load onto the trailer? a ramp gate? That is a HUGE flat sail on the interstate, even with the holes in it.

My utility trailer (5x10) is hinged at the front of the bed, just tilt it and load/unload. No ramp and no additional wind resistance. Empty trailer is about 500-600 pounds, mesh floor. Without trailer, and truck bed full of 4-wheeler I have zero room for camping gear. Trip to Colorado only cost me about 2 mpg.

I have a tilt trailer also. But it is
h e a v y d u t y. It's like a 7x10, wood floor, built with tubing, that's why I'd be borrowing my friends little 4x8 mesh trailer with a ramp. Way lighter and a lot easier on the truck to pull.

Pull the trailer! I had a 4banger before my current setup. Towed trailer and car dolly many, many times with no issues. The 2.7 is practically bulletproof.
    Enjoy your trip.
