Why's that?, he has a 5-lug regular cab.

I've averaged 30+ mpg over the 90,000 I have on my 5-lug AC.

All with the carbon filter intact and changing the air filter every 60k.

You two realize you're talking to the 2.7 dyno king of TW, right? Who designed his own intake spacer that has proven gains? And who also removed extraneous accessories from his truck to reduce engine load, like power steering and air conditioning?

Not only is it completely believable but it's proven.

Yeah... I'll buy ocean front property in Nevada too.
Just sayin... If Toyota can't make it happen, not buying it.

Hey - as long as you're not replacing your dunlops with new dunlop because the engineers determined they were just super on the truck.

I got better mpg with the oem Firestones over the much heralded Michelin's that claimed to be low rolling resistance, but failed to compete.

Toyota made this happen. Don't blame Toyota for your mpg.

    I didn't.

And I don't think anyone claims going from shitty stock tires to Michelin will save you MPG's - they say that the traction of the Michelins and the life of the tire are phenomenal.

Oops half of that post was directed at Ritchie. Firestone didn't claim any low rolling resistance with their tires but Michelin did advertise Green-X LRR but they were worse, I was marketed and the Michelin's didn't deliver.

^^ If Toyota could have achieved the MPG you're saying you get, they would have made it happen. On every Tacoma site I've seen, every forum has multiple posts complaining about their MPG with the 2.7 motor, regardless of transmission type.

If you're truly getting that, good for you but, as I am sure most will agree, you are the king of MPG as you are the only guy I've seen post those numbers.

A guy on another mpg thread with a 5-lug stick says he's gotten 34, so it isn't just me.

Here's my best tank in 4x4 2.7l 5spd, and I used to average 24 all day in the summer. I can believe easily that some people with a five lug set up right can get 30 plus.

Built for maximum low end torque, tooter II.VII intake manifold spacer, LCE long tube header, Injen long tube intake, 2,900 rpm torque peak.
That's because no one else here has modded their Tacoma like I have. ;)

A stock 2.7 reaches its torque peak at 3,800 rpms.
Mine reaches it's peak at only 2,800 rpms
while making more torque than a stock engine.

I took an 800+ mile trip to Sacramento and back on the I5 and averaged 30.6 mpg. That was under the absolute best conditions as it was all steady state driving at 55-65 mph with an unloaded truck. My engine only pulls one extremely short belt that just runs the water pump and alternator. No power steering. No air conditioning.

I'm confused at how you don't get even better with your rig, without mods I beat you all day. Probably the altitude is my big advantage at a mile high. I get 32-36mpg driving 60 with no mods at all, and an air filter with 50K on it.

I say Toyota got the stock air filter set up right.

Cars could be made much more efficient, but then oil companies wouldn't make money, so...
