Or when they do try, everyone complains about how the 6-speed automatic shifts.

Or they remove the front air dam because it's not cool to be more aerodynamic.

You have a different year, a different model, and a different engine.

My old 1996 Tacoma averaged better gas mileage than the 2012. Nevertheless I'm still satisfied with it, as it's always loaded down with 600 to 800 pounds of materials and gets used every day to make money. :)

Cold air intakes work very well and I've seen noticeable gains using them at the dragstrip . I've seen as much as 3-4 tenths improvement and 5 -7mph or more faster in the 1/4 mile . My sbc drag race car picked up alot after going with a cold air set up and tried both a cold air pan getting air from the cowl and 4" cold air tubing off of the core support

For a CAI set up using a heat barrier wrap or heat sleeving over the intake tube will lower air temps significantly . Also sealing off the CAI air filter area with foam to keep hot air from entering the filter and only allowing cold outside air into the motor

With Cold air intakes if you sleeve the air tube with a heat Barrier wrap/sleeving you will get colder outside ambient air temps into the throttle body . Also the remote filter box area use foam pipe wrap and seal the sheet metal box better . Use plumbing pipe wrap and build up the area were the hood contacts this area . Again the colder the ambient air the more hp you'll get

let me ask this if you take the secondary filter out and switch the primary to a free flowing filter what can be done to remove the 'mixing box' between the filter box and intake

thanks for the response! how about hp or throttle response lessening restrictions

I haven't seen any dyno results that measure HP increase simply on intake for a 2013. Haven't seen a way to measure the much claimed "throttle response' improvement, that's just an unmeasurable claim when dyno results say zero.

The "restrictions" just don't matter in the rpm you drive the most. An unmeasurable 1 or 2 HP above 5000 rpm don't really make a difference where it matters.

Using a flow bench you could experiment on seeing how much CFM into the throttle body . But like I mentioned sealing off the box or CAI with reflective heat wrap or sleeving . Getting ambient outside temp into the throttle body will make more hp . Also using straight tubing for the air intake will flow more CFM than a tube with restrictive elbows or convoluted shape

You could get cold air from the cowl as it's a high pressure area and the windshield redirects the air into the cowl . I've seen some set ups using a cold air pan along with ram air and it worked very well

Factory intake is a cold air intake.

So.. Not sure your experience with SBCs at the drag strip applies.

People running various aftermarket cold air intakes on these trucks have seen minimal to negative gains when compared to a stock setup, proven on the dyno.

an engine is an engine the thing is a pump the more you free air up goin in and coming out the more efficient it has to be that being said i agree i don't believe any big gains if only doing intake buy if exhaust also done i can only believe there has to be improvement

after all i've read on tw for a 2.7 the only mods that sound minimally beneficial are romoving the secondary filter, dropping in a free flowing primary, lce header, and flowmaster muffler. i would still expect benefits to be minimal and not sure if worth the time or exspense. i just can't leave things alone

Yeah I'm still debating if I should get a full AFE pro dry intake kit w/ the sealed airbox OR removing the stock 2 filters (prime and secondary) and dropping in a AFE pro dry

every body here keeps talking about the afe pro s drop in filter but when i go to the afe site the only 1 they list for a 2.7 is 30-10123 which is not a dry filter. where are people finding this filter if afe doesn't list it? is there a big diffference between it and a k&n drop in i have them in other vehicles so i already have the service kit it works good in my scion with over 195,000 miles on it
