Roof racks

whats the best set of roof racks out there ?

 

I would also like to know this... Currently scouring the forum but not very successful or patient... The OEM racks are only rated for 100lbs.

I want to be able to load my canvas tent up there which weighs in excess of 200lbs. Plus I don't ever want to be limited to how much I can out on the roof (within reason of course) 100 lbs is simply not a high enough weight rated to justify spending $500+

 

I have heard great things about Prinsu. Mine should be here in a couple of weeks and will let you know.

 

Just took a look, already liking these more than the OEM racks... I really like the T-bar slots and ability to create tool tie downs of move ratchet straps to anywhere on the rack. Totally worth the $500

I can't decide tho... Bare aluminum, or powder coated black? (I have a white double Cab) what did you go with?

Also I can't find a weigh capacity for this rack system. I'll send an email to the manufacturer, but won't hear back til tomorrow or possibly later... Any idea what they're rated for roughly?

 

Not sure man. I know people put RTT on top of their cab so they have to be pretty sturdy. I went with the powder coat and black crossbars. My truck is silver w black accents. I think he will do some different colors too. He is on TW too and is probably slammed at the current time because he held a group buy on here, @zscott

 

I had a Baja Rack on my FJ. Thinking about something like this for taco.

 

I think they say use your best judgments. I just put one on the other day after OCD researching roof racks. Love it and got a lot of thumbs up for it already. Guy name Zach runs it and is very helpful

 

How'd you line your holes up for punching on the weather stripping?

 

I tried to be good and had this whole thing with painters tape and line up the holes. Thought I was so smart.. Forgot to about the metal strip in the weather strip and went to cut a hole with a drill and ripped it apart. So plan B, I just cut the strip into sections based off where the holes were. Can't see it anyways but got the job done.

 

Yeah his instructions say to cut that out w an angle grinder. This should be interesting/fun

 

Yeah exactly. You should be good. I put painters tape across the hole, enough for when laying the strip down I can see where I marked the hole. Then marked the strip. Take it off and do surgery.
